Free Song by The Devil Wears Prada

A while back, Matt put out a reward for anyone that could find a legal, free download of The Devil Wears Prada. If you don’t remember this, check the comments off of this post here and mourn the fact you only clicked the download link (or didn’t click it either) and decided not to comment. However, all is not lost, because if you look carefully, you will see that TDWP was only half of the offer.

Anyway, the song up for download is “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” It is found on a sampler put up by their former record label. The problem is that you have to download the whole sampler, and the some of the bands are not Christian bands, but you can delete their songs (or if any of you know that one of them actually is a Christian band, tell me in the comments).

Edit:  Burden of a Day is also a Christian band.  It’s not the song Matt was looking for a download of, but its nonetheless a legal, free download from a Christian band.  And from what I’ve seen, At The Throne of Judgment might be.  And then Before Their Eyes is a Christian band.  That’s all I have time to check for you, but if anyone wants they can look the bands up.  I sort of feel like an idiot now for saying there weren’t any other when there is at least three more (and I’ve only checked out half of the bands) Christian bands.

  9. Oh, and I have several Maylene songs I downloaded, I just need to remember where I got them from. There was a link a while back, but FreeMVS.com isnt working right now (though FreeGotee is back up).

  11. Hey, I’d like it if you could include downloads from the veggietales band, Boyz in the Sink. Soon. ‘Cause I like ‘em. A lot.
    Thanks,

  13. Jeff and James: Yeah, FreeMVS has been down for quite a while. Wal Mart used to have a free Maylene download though. That would be the place to check I think.

Asdef123: That would sweet, those guys are funny. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anything free from Veggie Tales. I’ll keep my eyes open though.

  19. Sounds good to me, but it also seems like your just giving me more stuff to post about…

Just kidding, but that really is part of what is gonna happen. Not a bad thing of course.

  21. Hey, just wanted to let you guys know, their are more bands that are Christian on this sampler. Dance Gavin, Dance and Emarosa are Christian! Thanks for posting this!

  22. Matt on September 27th, 2008
  23. Colt did a ton of research on this, and emailed me his findings. Basically, Dance Gavin, Dance isn’t a Christian band (just look at the lyrics, ugh). And while Emarosa used to be fronted by current Agraceful (a Christian group) member Chris Roetter, who then left and started Agraceful. After that, the former vocalist of Dance Gavin, Dance joined Emarosa as vocalist, and it went down hill from there. So, I wouldn’t consider either band Christian, by a long shot.

  25. Well, I consider them that. I see them classified as that a lot too, and in HM Magazine they have advertisements for them all over.

  26. Matt on September 27th, 2008
  27. Two Matt’s………..that could get confusing……

  28. James on September 27th, 2008
  29. Well Matt (#2), I wouldn’t judge a band by the advertisements you see (or the places you see them). Check their lyrics for yourself and make the call. Keep in mind that their first EP (This is your way out) was fronted by a solid Christian.

Matt (#1): I am flattered that you would mention me in the correction, but, I want to humbly say that it was not necessary. I just did what I thought was right. :) Thanks again for your (and James’) efforts to bring great music to the masses!

  31. TDWP song is totally cool! maybe matt 2# should make up a name like: ilovechristianmusic or something like that.

  32. Peter on September 30th, 2008
  33. Colt: I thought it was necessary. You did all the work.

Anyway, I just wanted to mention that it looks like the Burden of a Day song is an unreleased b-side/demo. I couldn’t find it on any of their CDs, so my guess is it’s a pretty rare song. Consider that one more reason to get the sampler. :)

  37. Thanks guys for that about Dance Gavin, Dance and Emarosa! I downloaded both the Free Summer Sampler and the Jawsome Summer Sampler, and both bands were on both.

  39. Just wondering… I used to be a huge fan of DGD, but since I am a Christian, the song Lemon Meringue Tie really bothered me.

The last line especially. How can lyrics like those be Christian?

  40. Ana on July 3rd, 2009
  41. I agree, Dance Gavin Dance doesn’t look like the sort of band I’d listen too – ever. :( I think it’s safe to say they probably aren’t a Christian band.

  43. Limiting yourself to only Christian music is terribly close-minded.
I hope you have tastes that range further than just what you post.
As for Dance Gavin Dance, read these lyrics and this should make it clear.

I can’t believe how ridiculously close-minded some people are.
Just because a band isn’t specifically christian doesn’t mean they don’t have morals.
Christians claim to be open-minded and loving, but most are far from it and despise anything out of their very small comfort zone.
In order for there to be true happiness and peace, there has to be understanding and open-mindedness.

  44. Jeff Roberts on July 26th, 2009
  45. Actually, it isn’t necessarily closed-minded. Some people have personal convictions to only listen to Christian music. Some people, like myself, have convictions to only buy Christian music (but I do listen to some other stuff).

Now, as for the site, and like I’ve said before, this is “The Free Christian Music Blog,” not “The Free Music Blog.” If a reader listens to secular music, thats there decision, and if a reader was to listen to a track by a secular band that was on a sampler we posted that also have Christian artists, thats also their decision. However, we have the responsibility to inform our readers of which bands are Christian bands are which bands are not.

Like I said, I listen to some bands that are not Christian bands, whether they are borderline but can’t (unlike Lifehouse, Paramore, etc.) be featured here like Manchester Orchestra, Page France, Lovedrug, and Pedro the Lion, or plain old secular bands like Franz Ferdinand, Rage Against The Machine, and The Postal Service.

And I mention this because your comment seems directed towards Matt and I. So yes, my tastes go beyond what I post. However, like I said, this being a Christian music site means that it is about Christian music. That doesn’t make us closed-minded in the least.

  46. James on July 26th, 2009
  47. There are tons of really awesome Christian bands that haven’t been listed here or aren’t on the list of featured artists. We Came As Romans, In Fear And Faith, AKissForJersey, Haste The Day, Confide, Here I Come Falling, and The Almost (featuring the drummer/clean vocalist from Underoath) are all Christian bands.
