Dropping Off The Radar

I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news, and I have some really, really good news.  Let’s start with the bad news.  I’m going to be gone again this week.  The good news is, I have a really good reason.  I’m going to be taking sometime to go to a government class this week, and it’s going to be completely media free.  I.E., no internet, no music, no television, no radio, no newspapers, no magazines, etc..  That may sound like some kind of exile to some of you, but I’m actually looking forward to being offline for a couple of days.  :)

Now, don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten all of you.  I’ve scheduled several posts for this week, and I’m hoping Ansley can post a couple of times too.

I shall see you all sometime towards the end of the week.  Till then, keep rocking.  :-)

Esterlyn

Esterlyn on couch

Esterlyn is one of my favorite bands.  Most of you have probably heard me say that at least once before.  Not to sounds like a broken record, but it’s true.  I really, really like Esterlyn.  Not only is Esterlyn composed of several great guys, not only do they make amazing music with sweet lyrics, they also give away lots of free music.  Thus, today’s post.

(By the way, you might want to brace yourself.  This is very exciting news.)

Esterlyn is giving away their ENTIRE debut CD, Lamps, and their ENTIRE acoustic EP Mending the Meaning.  Both are excellent albums, and they are free!  You can’t top that!  Seriously, now you have no excuse for not giving them a listen.  :)

I could go on and on and on about how good both of these CDs are, but I don’t have time for that.  Just now that they are amazing and awesome and I highly recommend them.  You can download both on Esterlyn’s website (it’s also on their MySpace) through NoiseTrade.

Now, NoiseTrade gives you two options – “Tell 5 Friends” or “Pay What You Want”.  So long as you have at least 5 friends (most people do), you can put their email addresses in and get the CD for free.  They’ll get one email, telling how they can download the music too, and you’ll get an email with the link to download both Lamps and Mending the Meaning.  Or, if you’d like, you can pay however much you want for the CDs to support the artist.  Either way, you wind up with some great new tunes.  Enjoy!  :)

-Esterlyn.com-

Also, I’d like to point out that with these two CDs now free, and the Christmas song Esterlyn record last year and gave away in an Indie Vision Music sampler, you can get every song Esterlyn has released thus far for free.  Pretty amazing if you ask me.

Connersvine + Ansley + iTicket’s = This Post

Several new tidbits of news…

  • ConnersvineFreeCCM.com has added a new Connersvine song, “Lay Down”. I’ve lost track of how many different free songs I’ve gotten from Connersvine, but I must be close to having their full CD by now. Okay, maybe not, but this song is getting me one step closer.   :)
  • -FreeCCM.com-

  • Speaking of Connersvine, I was on their website last night and it turns out they’ve got a pretty interesting blog going.  If you ever wanted to know what they think of American Idol (and quite a few other things), well, now you can find out.  Check it out!

  • iTicket’s has got two new songs for this next week, from Israel Houghton and Disciple. Disciple’s “Lay My Burdens” is a great power-ballad with an equally great message, while Israel Houghton’s “The Power of One (Change the World)” is a urban/hip-hop/gospel/something-else-altogether-that-I-can’t-put-my-finger-on song.  It’s not really my thing, but hey, that’s just me.  It’s still a good track, and besides that, it’s free.  Enjoy!

  • Last but definitely not least, I’m happy to announce (*drum roll please*)… Ansley! She wrote the post last week about The Civil Wars to cover for me while I was many miles away from home in the Windy City.  She (and possibly some other people) have volunteered to help me out by doing some writing for TFCMB. These next couple of weeks look like they’ll be extremely busy for me, so I’m extremely grateful for the help.  Please, go and welcome Ansley on her post:)

Till next time, this is Matt, signing off…

Free Songs from The Civil Wars

Today’s free download comes form The Civil Wars, which is “a new band consisting of the fantastic John Paul White and the lovely Joy Williams”. They have two songs up for download, “Falling (Demo)” and “Dance Me to the End of Love (GarageBand Version)”. I liked “Falling”, but the other one, in my opinion, was monotonous and a little bit creepy. Hopefully, you’ll like it better than I did.

Children 18:3 Vs. Philmont

I’m in a very good mood right now.  Why?  Because I just saw what the NOTW.com downloads are this month, and they’re featuring two great new punk/rock bands, Philmont and Children 18:3.

From Philmont they have a free mp3 download of “I Can’t Stand To Fall” which happens to Philmont’s first single, plus being ultra-catchy song.  Then, from Children 18:3 they have the “You Know We’re All So Fond Of Dying”,which is was also their first radio single and their first hit.  Both are pretty sweet if you ask me.  Enjoy!

Dante Explained

So I’ve been getting a whole lot of emails and comments about my post on Red and Dante, a mysterious individual in Red’s top friends.  Most people are wondering “what on earth?”  To right the situation, I am going to try and reveal just enough information about it so everyone has a fair idea of what’s going on, but not so much as to spoil the fun.

First things first, there’s no evil cultists involved (though to be honest, that’s what I first thought when I saw Dante’s MySpace).  Does anyone remember the scavenger hunt Relient K did a while back?  RED is doing something similar, only far more epic.  Basically, it’s a giant scavenger hunt, based around the literary Dante’s “Divine Comedy”.  The MySpace profile for this new, modern Dante is the first stop in the quest – and the location of the first clue.

The clue is hidden on the page somewhere.  I’m not going to say where, really I’ve said too much already.  Just keep looking on the page and you’ll probably find it eventually.  If you can’t, and get completely desperate, you can (as a last resort) look on Wikipedia.  There’s a link to the next step on there.

I guess all that’s left to say is happy searching.  It’ll be challenging, but if you work at it, you can probably figure it out eventually.  In fact, you’ll probably figure it out before I do.  I’m stuck.  :(   But anyway, enjoy the hunt, and whatever you do, don’t cheat.  Whatever the prize is, it will be so much more enjoyable if you figure it out yourself.

Free Tracks from Laura Story, Mission Six, Revive, & B. Reith

Great God Who Saves Laura Story

Free music today from four differnet artists on two different sites.  FreeCCM just added a new song from Laura Story called “Immortal, Invisible” from her debut Great God Who Saves. You might have heard her rendition of “Mighty to Save” on the radio if you listen to much CCM.  It’s a pretty popular song.  Anyway, “Immortal, Invisible” is a  good praise & worship song from Laura.  I’m not 100% sure, but I think I’m picking up some banjo on the track. Maybe it’s just me, but I do think the song has a bit of a folky feel.  Check it out:

-FreeCCM.com-

The other three songs are from iTickets (as usual… :) ).  They’ve got B. Reith’s “Mess”, which has an almost urban feel to it, “Superhero” by Mission Six, for fans of tween pop, and new artist Revive’s “Chorus of the Saints”.  I haven’t heard anything from Revive before, but I have a couple of friends who are really excited for their CD, so I’m sure it’ll be worthwhile.  Plus, it’s free.  What do you have to lose?  :)

Dante Knows

I know I’ve kind of vanished for the past couple of days, things have been a bit (well, a lot) busy. Thankfully, I’ve had numerous people volunteer write for the site, so hopefully things will be picking up soon.

Now, one of the reasons I haven’t posted for a while involves the band RED, and a man named Dante. Check it out!

If you don’t understand what the significance of that page is, don’t worry.   Just know that there’s more music coming soon.  However, if you DO know the significance… Well, good luck.

A Failure to Excommunicate

Gotee.com recently added 7 new free songs to their already impressive line-up of free songs.  They’ve got two new, old House of Heroes songs (“Friday Night” and “Serial Sleepers”), one Flynn Adams song (“Feel It Now”), two sweet old school Relient K tracks (“Failure to Excommunicate” & “I Am Understood?”), and two free Paul Wright songs (“Heaven” and “You’re Beautiful”).

I would highly, highly recommend the Paul Wright & Relient K songs.  I hadn’t heard much of Paul Wright before, and he really impressed me, both lyrically & musicially.  And of course you can’t go wrong with Relient K, especially their older stuff.  :)   Trust me, it’s good.

You do need to sign-up to download the songs, but it’s easy enough to do.  And, after that you can get all 7 songs, plus the 8 that were previously available.  Enjoy!

New Free Rarities EP from Jonathan Steingard

1983 EPPiping hot free music today from Jonathan Steingard!  Seriously, Jonathan just posted this within the last hour, so get ‘em while they’re fresh!  :)   The music in question is an EP featuring remixes and b-sides from Jonathan Steingard’s varied solo career.  The track-listing:

1. “1983 (2009 Mix)”
2. “The Day Everything Changed”
3. “Kamikaze (Subharmonix Economics Remix)”
4. “Through The Wires (Ocean A Fog Remix)”

Alas, I haven’t been able to hear it yet, so I can’t really say much about it.  I’m really excited about hearing what Jonathan came up with this time though.  His last free EP, Atlantis, was amazing (and still available, I might add.  Scroll down on the music page!).

If you didn’t know already, Jonathan is the guitarist for Hawk Nelson, and has been working on his own music in his spare time, first under the moniker Fox Run, then as himself.  Like I said, I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I’m sure it’s worth your while.  Check it out!  It’s free after all.  :)
