Fuel Returns (And Matt’s Head Explodes)

Tooth & Nail Fuel SamplerIt’s true – Tooth & Nail and Solid State Records have let loose yet another unbelievably epic sampler to wreck musically chaos on the eardrums of fans everywhere.  In fact, the only thing that could come close to touching this is the last Fuel sampler.  The tracklist:

  • Surrogate – “Exercise Machines”
  • Living Sacrifice – “Overkill Exposure (Rough Mix)”
  • Haste the Day – “68″
  • As Cities Burn – “84′ Sheepdog”
  • Children 18:3 – “All My Balloons”
  • FM Static – “Boy Moves To A New Town With Optimistic Outlook”
  • Thousand Foot Krutch – “Bring Me To Life”
  • Emery – “Cutthroat Collapse”
  • Ivoryline – “Days End”
  • mewithoutYou – “Every Thought A Thought of You”
  • The Crucified – “The Pit”
  • MxPx – “Punk Rock Girl”
  • The Ascendicate – “Scottish”
  • Oh, Sleeper – “Son of the Morning”
  • August Burns Red – “Thirty and Seven”
  • Becoming The Archetype – “Dichotomy”
  • Copeland – “The Grey Man”
  • Hawk Nelson – “Let’s Dance (Dojo Dominating Remix)”
  • Showbread – “Nothing Matters Anymore”
  • MyChildren MyBride – “On The Wings of Integrity”
  • Neon Horse – “Strange Town”
  • Corey Crowder – “Look How Far We’ve Come”
  • Trenches – “Sacrament”
  • The Showdown – “[Achilles] The Backbreaker”
  • And Then There Were None – “Reinventing Robert Cohn”
  • Family Force 5 – “Fever”
  • Jonezetta – “Sick In The Teeth”
  • Since October – “Guilty”
  • The Chariot – “Daggers”
  • Underoath – “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures”
  • Secret & Whisper – “Anchors (Acoustic)”

If that doesn’t get you pumped up for this, I don’t know what will.  Well, besides the fact that the Showbread and Oh, Sleeper songs are brand new, never-before-heard.  They aren’t even on MySpace yet.  Extremely epic, and a must-have.

Of course, that’s not to say that it’s perfect.  The cover art is a little creepy, and the website mentions a song from The Almost, which wasn’t in my .zip file.  I won’t be surprised if there’s an update with the song in it soon enough.  Even so, those are minor details.  Get this, right, now.  Seriously.  Do it.  Now:

-Tooth & Nail/Solid States’s Fuel Sampler-

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I’m totally digging the Children 18:3, FM Static, and Ivoryline right now, great stuff, and I’m not nearly through the sampler yet.  What are your favorite songs?

  1. I wish MXPX would of covered a less secular song. Punk rock girl by The Dead Milkmen talks about stealing. I don’t wanna sound like a prude, but I love MXPX and i don’t wanna see them go there. But its their band not mine. Its just my opinion.

  7. I love the FM Static song. I kept it, the Hawk Nelson, and the Mxpx. The rest of the songs were way too intense (like camping). I would have kept the Family Force Five, but I had Fever already. Totally worth downloading just for the FM Static song though. I agree with Richard about Mxpx. =(

  9. I thought…TFK were with “forward motion” :(

  11. I personally think this I the best thing T&N can do to generate buzz about their label. Personally I’m digging the new ABR track from an album not even released yet. This sampler seemed less brutal then last year’s, and I missed not having a Demon Hunter track.and I really wish TFK would rap in their songs again. I don’t really mind the album art either, it reminds me of old audio adrenaline album art. All in all a great sampler.

  13. Richard: Yeah, I have to agree with you there. :(

Israel: I’m afraid not… but “Bring Me To Life” is still an amazing song. :)

Did anyone else listen to Surrogate’s “Exercise Machines”? I thought it was really funny. I mean, a song about the benefits of American’s using their exercise equipment? It’s pretty random.

  21. I downloaded all the songs I didn’t have except the Hawk Nelson, Corey Crowder, and mwY songs. I love that they had a new Oh Sleeper song, I’ve been on a major OS kick lately and new songs from them won’t be on myspace till late July.

About the MxPx thing, I gotta disagree. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them covering a secular song like that, it’s a fun song and they aren’t saying they condone shoplifting by covering it.

    Anyway, this sampler is awesome.

  23. YESSS new sampler!!! Aww, why’d they have to put in songs like Reinventing Robert Cohn and Bring Me To Life that you can already download somewhere else? phooey. O.O FM STATIC!!! yes! grr i’m on my grandma’s computer… i’ll be downloading this when I get home.

  25. Man, I wish this had come out sooner coz I already have the TFK, FM Static, Copeland, and ATTWN tracks. But the rest sounds exciting. I saw the video for the Ivoryline song and was thinking about purchasing; guess I won’t have to :<{)}

  27. I love these huge samplers from Tooth & Nail. I think it’s a great way to promote the bands. Other labels do this once in a while, but T&N brings one every single summer which makes them awesome in my book.

  29. my faves are secret and whisper, ivoryline and fmstatic!!!

  31. This is as exciting and epic as One Dark Summer. :D

I had several of these songs, but this is a pretty good taste of what T&N and Solid State are putting out these days. I listen to Metal only for the novelty, so many of those songs will be skipped, except maybe the new Showbread song (not metal really) and Haste The Day and Oh, Sleeper.

Matt, I really like that Surrogate song. It made me smile.

Corey Crowder is also really good! It was great they threw in the acoustic song by Secret & Whisper too. Also a gem, and completely far and above everything else on this compilation is the inclusion of one of my favorite new Copeland songs. The Grey Man. Please people. Listen to Copeland.

    Just my 2 cents. bye.

  33. that Oh Sleeper song is freakin epic…

  34. Ian on June 30th, 2009
  35. Goatsranimals: You know, I kind of missed Demon Hunter too, and it would have been nice to see some new Project 86 or The Almost, but I’m still pretty thankful for the songs they did include.

Shepherd: I know, that acoustic Secret & Whisper song took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting to see that at all. Plus, it’s a really nice version too. :)

Rachel: You might want to hurry home… :) Just kidding, have fun with you grandmother, then hurry home. ;)

  39. Well, I already have the mewithoutYou, As Cities Burn, and Copeland tracks from their albums, as well as a few of the others from previous downloads, but I’m super excited for the new Showbread song and am happy to finally get my hands on a Neon Horse song.

  40. James on June 30th, 2009
  41. HayngMan3000#: I got mine almost immediately.

If anyone one sees anything wrong with the tracklisting, or if Tooth & Nail updates it again (like they did last year, when they added a new Norma Jean song), just let me know and I’ll change the list. ;)

  45. Just because some of the tracks aren’t pop-rock doesn’t make them screamo. Living Sacrifice metals the face off screamo bands…but so far looks like I’m the only one thinking it’s friggin sweet they’ve got new stuff out.
