Free Song From Matt Papa
From Monday to Thursday this week, I was a counselor with my church’s Children’s Ministry as they went to Student Life Camp for Kids. I had a blast, hung out with some awesome kids, and even learned a few things. One of the highlights (on a trip full of highlights) was the worship band, led by worship leader Matt Papa.
After seeing him lead worship for the past several days, I thought it would be cool if we could feature him on the site. From Wikipedia, I found out that he had 3 songs up on his website, but unfortunately were no longer available. However, I found a song on the Gospel Music Channel website, where it was featured a while back as the download of the week. If you’re expecting some poor quality track, your in for a surprise. He has sometimes been compared to David Crowder (and not just because of the hair [see below]), though I’m not sure if the download, “Hallelujah, Our God Reigns,” is the best representation of their similarities. Nonetheless, it is a great worship song.

John Reu, House of Heroes, and The Sonflowerz

iTicket’s has got some very cool downloads this week, from John Reuben, House of Heroes, and new artist The Sonflowerz. John Reuben’s track, “Do Not”, is a classic song from Reuben, and also the soundtrack to his first music video ever. More on that in a bit. Also featured is HoH’s jammin’ song “If” from their latest, The End Is Not The End, and The Sonflowerz’s “Edge of My Seat”. If you’re a fan of Point of Grace, or female-fronted folk-tinged pop in general, don’t miss these girls. They’re definitely a new artist to keep an eye on.

Now, the music video for “Do Not”. The Christian music video website VideoRocket is giving away a free copy of the music video for this week only. I have to say, “Do Not” is probably my favorite John Reuben video (unless you count the extented edition of “Doin”. That would be close.) Reuben’s got a nack for quirky videos with memorable characters, and “Do Not”‘s disgruntled ice cream man is no exception. What follows is pure Reuben fun. Check it out!

And while I’m talking about John Reuben, I might as well mention that I found him on Twitter a few days ago, so… If you ever want to see what Reuben is dippity dip doin’ (I know, I just couldn’t resist…) you can follow him here.
Eleventyseven – “Evil Genius”
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a pretty big Eleventyseven fan, and one of the first two songs I heard from their new album Adventures in Eville was an zany little number called “Evil Genius”. The music video for the song just came out, and I just have to share it with you all. Part boy-meets-girl, part quest for world domination, and a whole lot of lighthearted silly (geeky) fun all around, prepare yourself for a music video like no other…
Oh, and Grover Cleveland deserves an Oscar. Just sayin’.
Finale Explained (And The Hunt Unveiled)
I know a lot of you are pretty curious about the password-protected post mysteriously entitled “Finale” that showed up in your inboxes and RSS readers a few days ago. I really did deserve all the emails/direct messages/comments, since I meant to write this explanation right after that post, but I didn’t get around to it. Hopefully, this will clear up some confusion.
First things first, (or should I say last things first?) the “Finale” post is part of contest I started a few weeks ago on the TFCMB Facebook page. As the name indicates, the post is the last stop in the contest (which I’m calling a scavenger hunt). It originally started on Facebook, but since there’s so much interest here, I’m going to open it up to anyone. You won’t have as much time to finish as the Facebook people, but if you work at it, I bet you can get through.
Anyway, the quest will take you through both the blog and several different social sites, as you follow clues hidden all over the place to more clues, lots of free music (since this is The Free Christian Music Blog) and ultimately, you’ll discover the password for “Finale”. You might even win a free copy of This Beautiful Republic’s new CD Perceptions…
The first clue, from Facebook. Please pardon my design skills:

Also, if you’ve been following the hunt since the start, but had trouble with the final password, you might want to retry that. I had a bit of an issue with different parts of the password, but it’s all straighten out now. If you need too, refer back to the second to last page and double check your answers.
I think that’s everything cover, except the most important thing: have fun! I had a blast setting this up, and hopefully, you’ll enjoy it too.
Update: The scavenger hunt has been taken down, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who participated! Maybe we’ll do this again sometime…
Free Amazon MP3 Downloads
Ok, I’ve got a few free songs for those of you who live in the US from Amazon’s MP3 store. You can get 33Miles’ latest single, “Jesus Calling”, and former American Idol contestant, Phil Stacey’s single “You’re Not Shaken.” Both songs are on the Christian music radio charts, and they sound really great. As some of you might know from watching season 6 of American Idol, Phil Stacey is a proclaimed Christian. Since then, he’s been signed under Reunion Records (the same company who brought you Tenth Avenue North, Brandon Heath, Casting Crowns) and is planning to come out with an album later this year. Anyway, you can pick up both of these songs up at Amazon.com.

Also from Amazon, is a free five song Mother’s Day/Father’s Day sampler from Southern Gospel singer, Bill and Gloria Gaither. I know it’s well past Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, but better late than never, right? So for those of you who are fans of Southern Gospel Music, be sure to pick these up. If not, you should still get it, after all, it’s free!
i, Tickets.

iTicket’s has added a few more downloads this week, two from independant artists (Renier Strydom & SpiritSound Music Group), and one from Gotee Records’ own Ayiesha Woods. All three songs are free (as usual!) and are only available this week. Check them out!
Now, as a random sidenote, I may be the only one counting, but this is the third free song from Ayiesha’s latest album, Love Like This, and I believe the 6 free song from her total. Three from Love Like This, three from Introducing Ayiesha Woods. I know you all were dying to know that…
Enjoy!
New Poll: What New Release Are You Looking Forward Too?
Since it’s been a while since I’ve run a poll here on The Free Christian Music Blog, and since there’s so many great CDs coming out this year, and since I’m alway a curious fellow, I’ve decided to start a new poll, asking which new CD in 2009 are you most looking forward to?
Turns out, there’s a lot more new music coming out then I thought there was. Even with just including signed artists and a few notable indies in the genres most often covered on TFCMB, I still spend way more time typing then I expected.
Anyway, I want to know what you think. Which CD are you most excited about? Is it Skillet’s latest? Or maybe it’s Family Force 5′s new Christmas album? Or perhaps it’s David Crowder*Band’s Church Music? I know I had a hard time choosing, but, I’d love to know your opinion.
To vote, just look in the sidebar if you’re on the site reading this, or click here and then look in the sidebar if you’re reading this through email or RSS. It only takes 33 seconds (and that’s on my slow internet connection!). Of course, it might take longer if you’re not sure who to vote for, but either way, it’s still quick. Thanks ahead of time!
New Eleventyseven Song Free!

This just in from the bands Twitter account:
“Free Music Friday is posted: Get a free song! And tell your friends!!! http://bit.ly/ISY51“
The song is “Nightmare”, and it’s free from AbsolutePunk as part of their “Free Music Friday” series. It’s also from their brand new CD Adventures in Eville, and it’s one of the best songs on there (in my opinion). Good stuff. Check it out!
Owl City “Fireflies”

If you’re like me, you really enjoyed the free song Owl City released a few weeks back. It was called “Hot Air Balloon”, and pretty much definited catchy, ambient electronic music to me. Which is why I’m so excited to bring you another free Owl City song, this time from his new full-length CD, Ocean Eyes.
It’s called “Fireflies”, and it’s available for free as iTunes Single of the Week. Just like “Hot Air Balloon”, it’s extremely catchy, airy, and fun. Actually, “Fireflies” sounds like stars & fireflies, if you can imagine it. It’s good, and it’s free, which is an amazing combination if you ask me.
Check it out!
