Club-Bing to Win Free Music Downloads
Now this might come as a surprise to you, but Microsoft has made it possible for you to get free music downloads by simply playing games. Yes, you heard me right. You might think that this an odd source to get free music, being that you need to ‘work’ for it by playing a couple of games. This is all brought up as a promotion of Microsoft’s new search-engine, Bing. What you will need to be able to get these downloads is (1) a Windows Live account, (2) a Club Bing account, and (3) a Puretracks account. The next steps are pretty easy, as all you have to do is play any of the games on their site. After winning a couple of points, you can redeem them for a variety prizes, which include free song downloads. If you redeem points for a music download, you will receive an email 1-2 months later with a download code for free music on Puretracks. The best part of this is that you get to choose the music you get free. The major downsides to this is that you have to spend your time playing some games and that Puretracks has a limited library of Christian music, as well as the long wait for the code. Anyway, I personally have gone through all these steps myself, and have gotten a total of eleven free downloads from Puretracks of music I got to choose, so I know for a fact that this will work, and that you won’t be wasting your time playing a couple of games.

Wow, great idea! (from MS that is) xD
Sounds cool!
One question….it says the songs come in wma format. Will that work on an iPod Classic?
If you use the search function, then you can find alot more artists. You just have to have a list of what you want beforehand and then go search for it. Their list is pretty jumbled, and they will be missing random albums, at least for the groups that aren’t big time names. Just don’t expect for everything you want to be there to actually be there. Unless in the one to two months it takes to send you the email it shows up, I guess.
Also, maybe this is just a compatibility issue with Macs, but when searching I couldn’t just type in something and hit the return button, and had to click their search button.
Yeah, I’ve used the search function and found some more Christian artists. Still, the selection is quite limited. They have only one album from Sanctus Real.
They have most of the popular CCM stuff though.
The music on puretracks come in both WMA and MP3 format. Some tracks have both formats, or one of each. Sad to say, that the WMA tracks will NOT work on iPods or Zunes because they are protected. I advise you to look for MP3 tracks, which will work for all MP3 players.
@Josh
Ok thanks…The reason I was asking is that when you click on details for the song download prizes, it says you get a song in WMA format, but if it still lets you get the MP3′s that’ll work out great.
So..why does it take a month or two for them to give you the songs? Sounds weird.
But I do like the idea of choosing any song from an album that I want for free. A lot of times there’s only one or two songs I really want from an album anyway, and those aren’t always the ones offered by hereitfirst or purevolume or itickets or what have you
I’ll have to check this out tomorrow.
What are the best groups you all have found?
@Bryan, yeah, I was confused at the description at first as well. So I had to try it out myself, to see if the MP3′s would work, and sure enough, they did. I bought several WMA songs, and I had to burn them onto disks and re-rip them to get the songs to work for my Zune though.
@John, I have no clue why it takes so long. I think it is to make sure the prize is in accordance with their terms and conditions.
It says this in the email:
“Please note, in most cases prizes will be delivered 8-12 weeks from the date your order is processed”
I received mine just under 8 weeks, (7 weeks).
@Bryan, (again), it depends on what style of music you like. They had many of the music you’ll hear on the radio (Chris Tomlin, Brandon Heath, Mercyme, Newsboys, etc). I’m not sure about harder rock artists though. They did have a few artists I was interested in though: Stellar Kart, The Afters, and Kutless
as if i needed another reason to waste time playing games online
They have all but one Stryper album, so I’m happy.
Okay I checked it out and started playing games.
The most astonishing thing I’ve found so far is that apparently one of the albums available is..
Metamorphasis by Pillar (as well as most of Pillar’s label albums)
one more thing that people should know, with the site’s current prize rules, you can get a maximum of 36 free songs(still plenty, just realize it’s not unlimited)
Now the site seems to be “Hip Digital Music Store”
It has about the same selection as puretracks, and a slightly better interface. It might be puretracks under another name.
