Almost For Free
No, the title doesn’t mean that this is about music that is close to free but isn’t. Actually, and thankfully, it means that you are getting two free songs from the band The Almost.
Now, they are an established enough band that I shouldn’t even have to mention this, but for those of you who are not aware, The Almost is the side project of Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie. Not some tiny little side project that doesn’t get much attention or one that Tooth and Nail puts out but doesn’t promote, but one of the biggest most successful side projects in Christian music.
They are set to release a new album November 3rd titled Monster Monster. Unfortunately, no songs from the new album have been given away yet (though when they do you will definitely hear about it here), but what you do have are two awesome that you don’t want to miss out on (though, seeing as they’ve been up for a long time, they’ll likely be up until the site either has a major change or disappears).
Free Sampler From We Shot The Moon

When I first found We Shot The Moon, it was on a Indie Vision Music sampler. The track was called “Sway Your Head.” The track also appeared on the Best Of IVM sampler. Then, the song was featured on a compilation put together by Faceless International. “Sway Your Head” was the big single off of their album Fear and Love, which they gave away free a couple months ago. My point is, they seem to really love giving away this song.
Which brings me to their free sampler that they are giving away on their label’s website. “Sway Your Head” is once again included, though, seeing as the sampler is to promote their upcoming album A Silver Lining, it does include three brand new songs (and two others), including their new single “The Bright Side.” This is definitely something that you should check out.
Free Songs From Copeland

Remember back in January when I featured downloads from a site call Daytrotter? If you don’t, the site basically has artists come in to their studios and re-record several of their songs in a different way. Then the songs are put up for free download, along with a writeup and drawing of the band (like the one above). However, there was only one person on the site we could post about until now.
Copeland recently had a session with Daytrotter, and they have for songs for free download there. All but one of them are from You Are My Sunshine, so for fans of Beneath Medicine Tree, In Motion, or everything except the title track from Eat Sleep Repeat may be a little disappointed. This however, is nothing to be disappointed about (Well, except for the fact that the vocals sound off. Maybe its just a new spin on them and I’m just too used to album vocals.).
Summer Slam Volume 3
Remember Indie Vision Music? You know, that site that has brought you songs from artists like MXPX, Project 86, Cool Hand Luke, Chasing Victory, Ever Stays Red, Esterlyn (a lot from them actually), The Glorious Unseen, Forever Changed, Brave Saint Saturn, Stavesacre, and Deepspace 5, not to mention hundreds of great songs from lesser know and up and coming bands?
Well, if you have forgotten, this should serve as a reminder. Indie Vision Music has recently come out with Summer Slam Vol. 3, its newest in a very long line of compilations. In it are 56 free songs, conveniently divided into three discs. While this one doesn’t include any of the big names groups listed above (the biggest on the list is probably Gotee artist I Am Terrified), it does include alot of great groups, including songs from bands like Sleeping Giant, Hands, and Impending Doom on the heavy sampler and songs from groups like All Star United, Sleep For Sleepers, and Ocean Is Theory on the rock discs.
Even if you don’t end up liking most of the songs, the odds are that you will find a new band that you really like. And anyway, its 56 free songs, so I probably don’t need to spend this much time trying to convince you.

P.S. I know that some of those bands that I listed in the first paragraph aren’t as big as they used to be (some are broken up), so some of you may not recognize them, but they are all quality groups. If you haven’t heard of them, go check them out.
Free Song From Matt Papa
From Monday to Thursday this week, I was a counselor with my church’s Children’s Ministry as they went to Student Life Camp for Kids. I had a blast, hung out with some awesome kids, and even learned a few things. One of the highlights (on a trip full of highlights) was the worship band, led by worship leader Matt Papa.
After seeing him lead worship for the past several days, I thought it would be cool if we could feature him on the site. From Wikipedia, I found out that he had 3 songs up on his website, but unfortunately were no longer available. However, I found a song on the Gospel Music Channel website, where it was featured a while back as the download of the week. If you’re expecting some poor quality track, your in for a surprise. He has sometimes been compared to David Crowder (and not just because of the hair [see below]), though I’m not sure if the download, “Hallelujah, Our God Reigns,” is the best representation of their similarities. Nonetheless, it is a great worship song.

Free Album From We Shot The Moon
If you’ve been following The Free Christian Music Blog for a while, you may recognize We Shot The Moon from a couple of the Indie Vision Music compilations. If you haven’t, you might remember them from yesterday’s post. Either way, you should be excited, because they are giving away their most recent album Fear and Love for free on their website.
For those of you who are familiar with former Tooth and Nail band Waking Ashland, We Shot The Moon was formed by and is fronted by their lead singer. Their are definitely a couple similarities, but the bands are different in style. They sound a little bit similar to Ruth at some points, but its not a very big comparison, unless you don’t listen to this genre much, which means you might think they sound alike (not that big of a deal if you do though).
I haven’t been able to listen much, but I do think that the song title “Upon Waking She Found Herself A Cougar” is pretty awesome. The song itself is pretty good too. From my one listen it definitely is one of the standout tracks (to me at least)

P.S. Fun Fact: The album cover was designed by a fan in a fan contest. Sort of like our logo. If you look at it it sort of makes sense. That is a pretty random album cover.
Face The Change Compilation

Faceless International is organization that seeks to get people involved and to help defend the exploited faceless people all around the world. I’m keeping the description short because I want all of you to go look for yourself and learn more about them. I strongly encourage you to go to the website now.
To help raise awareness, Faceless is giving away a compilation which includes 21 artists, a few Christian ones like Emery, We Shot The Moon, and Anchor and Braille, which is a side project of Stephen Christian from Anberlin (he also co-founded Faceless). If any of the other artists are Christian artist, please tell me and I’ll add them to this list.
-Face the Change Compilation -
While this site is focused primarily on music, I love that we are sometimes given the opportunity to put the spotlight on an organization like this. So download the compilation, and enjoy the downloads, especially the Anchor and Braille song, but don’t forget to get involved in something and make a difference. It doesn’t have to be this or even have to be a charity.
Free Andy Zipf
For a while, I thought about finding some sort of patriotic Christian song (or at least looking for it) and featuring it on this website to commemorate the 4th of July. I decided against it, however, because while I’m pretty sure all four of us writers are American, and most of the readers are, the site is for everyone regardless of country. However, if any of you know of any legal download of patriotic Christian music, please post the links in the comments. And for all of our American audience, I hope you’ve had a great Independence Day.

Now, for the downloads, we have music from Andy Zipf (mentioned here recently). Andy Zipf is a singer-songwriter from Indianapolis, Indiana. He used to be signed to Mono Vs Stereo, alongside artists such as House of Heroes, The Showdown, Last Tuesday, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and Gasoline Heart. Its a pretty random label to say the least. And, thankfully, FreeMVS.com is back up online, so once again, his songs “So Am I” and “Keep Your Body Broken” are once again available, along with the other bands mentioned and more. You’ll need to create an account, unless you already had one before, which in that case you can login with it.

The second place which you can download his music is from his website. He has his latest album, The Coward’s Choir, up for download free on his website. However, it is up as a pay whatever you like type download, so if you really enjoy the album, and want to help Andy out, I encourage you to give whatever you want. The one problem is that all of the songs are put together as one track, and at first it seems like one awesome 18 minute song, it’s actually 4 or 5 smaller ones. Still worth downloading though.

The last place to download his stuff is on his Purevolume page. I believe I’ve saved the best for last, because he has six songs up, including a live song and a cover song. The cover is a very ambitious one (a bit “Crazy,” I must say), but I think he gives the song justice. It definitely is a must-hear (and by association, as must-download).
Free Song from Jonezetta
Today we have a free song from the band Jonezetta. The song is “Get Ready (Hot Machete)” and its up for download on Spin.com. If this song seems familiar, that’s because it was once before featured on this site, having won the very first Song Combat. However, the original download no longer works, and since many of you are new to TFCMB, those of you who did not have a chance before to download now will.
Free Album From Sleeping At Last
If you’ve been following this site for a while, you should be aware of NoiseTrade, a site started by Derek Webb, which features full albums, put up by artists themselves, for free. The catch is, you have to help promote the artist to 5 friends, or otherwise pay what you choose, in order to download the album. However, telling 5 friends about a group in exchange for a free album is what is known as a good deal. Especially with the many quality artists already on the site.
Which brings us to Sleeping At Last. They’ve recently put up their critically acclaimed album Keep No Score up for download on NoiseTrade. I think the best word to describe the album is beautiful. The instruments, the vocals, the imagery in the lyrics. But don’t like that stop all of you metalheads, etc, from downloading, or at least giving them a chance. You might find you like it. If you have to just hear a few tracks they have a link to their myspace. But hurry, because according to the band, it will only be up until the end of June.
