Face The Change Compilation

Faceless International is organization that seeks to get people involved and to help defend the exploited faceless people all around the world.  I’m keeping the description short because I want all of you to go look for yourself and learn more about them.  I strongly encourage you to go to the website now.

-Faceless International-

To help raise awareness, Faceless is giving away a compilation which includes 21 artists, a few Christian ones like Emery, We Shot The Moon, and Anchor and Braille, which is a side project of Stephen Christian from Anberlin (he also co-founded Faceless).  If any of the other artists are Christian artist, please tell me and I’ll add them to this list.

-Face the Change Compilation -

While this site is focused primarily on music, I love that we are sometimes given the opportunity to put the spotlight on an organization like this.  So download the compilation, and enjoy the downloads, especially the Anchor and Braille song, but don’t forget to get involved in something and make a difference.  It doesn’t have to be this or even have to be a charity.

Utter, Abject, Horror

What you are about to see is graphic, violent and bloody.  I highly recommend you get parental permission before you view them if you’re under age.  Most likely, the images will stay with you for the rest of your life, a haunting reminder.  Hopefully, you’ll never be the same.

Consider yourself warned.  If you think you can stomach what’s to come, I suggest you close this page right now.  But if you think you’re able, click below to read the rest of this post.

Dante Explained

So I’ve been getting a whole lot of emails and comments about my post on Red and Dante, a mysterious individual in Red’s top friends.  Most people are wondering “what on earth?”  To right the situation, I am going to try and reveal just enough information about it so everyone has a fair idea of what’s going on, but not so much as to spoil the fun.

First things first, there’s no evil cultists involved (though to be honest, that’s what I first thought when I saw Dante’s MySpace).  Does anyone remember the scavenger hunt Relient K did a while back?  RED is doing something similar, only far more epic.  Basically, it’s a giant scavenger hunt, based around the literary Dante’s “Divine Comedy”.  The MySpace profile for this new, modern Dante is the first stop in the quest – and the location of the first clue.

The clue is hidden on the page somewhere.  I’m not going to say where, really I’ve said too much already.  Just keep looking on the page and you’ll probably find it eventually.  If you can’t, and get completely desperate, you can (as a last resort) look on Wikipedia.  There’s a link to the next step on there.

I guess all that’s left to say is happy searching.  It’ll be challenging, but if you work at it, you can probably figure it out eventually.  In fact, you’ll probably figure it out before I do.  I’m stuck.  :(   But anyway, enjoy the hunt, and whatever you do, don’t cheat.  Whatever the prize is, it will be so much more enjoyable if you figure it out yourself.

Dante Knows

I know I’ve kind of vanished for the past couple of days, things have been a bit (well, a lot) busy. Thankfully, I’ve had numerous people volunteer write for the site, so hopefully things will be picking up soon.

Now, one of the reasons I haven’t posted for a while involves the band RED, and a man named Dante. Check it out!

If you don’t understand what the significance of that page is, don’t worry.   Just know that there’s more music coming soon.  However, if you DO know the significance… Well, good luck.

And Then There Was A Free Song

Today your free song is from the new Tooth & Nail artist And Then There Were None. They are a dance rock group, sort of like Family Force 5 (but only sort of). The song is “Reinventing Robert Cohn,” and its off of their album Who Speaks For Planet Earth? which comes out February 24.

Along with the free download, there is an invitation to enter a contest to win their new CD and a band t-shirt. To enter the contest, you have to join the “And Then There Were None Dance Off Contest” group on YouTube and submit a video of you dancing to the song. At the point of me writing this, there are only 8 submissions, and 5 people win the prize, so if you have pretty good odds of winning. The contest ends in 10 days, so hurry.

James’ Top 10 Downloads Of 2008

So, it was hard, but I narrowed down my top 10 list. And I only included three of my own posts, unlike Matt, who listed ten of his. Nevermind the fact that I joined him late in the year and only posted one day a week for not even every week til the end of the year…

Anyway, I sorted through the 300+ posts and probably 1000+ songs and ended up with this list of favorites:

10: Tie Between Children 18:3, Children 18:3, and Children 18:3 – So, Matt had a tie at 10th, so I thought it was only fair that I do the same. Children 18:3 was a band I found near the beginning of the year and was the first band that year to show me that pop-punk could be something that I could enjoy if it was done right.

9: Sides of the North – This small band was one of Christian music’s best kept secrets, which is a shame because they were awesome. Six songs by them is definitely an awesome post and worthy of placing in the top 10.

8: Summer Slam Volume 2 – Indie Vision Music has been one of the top sources of free Christian music, and SSV2 is their biggest and best. It gave me free songs from Project 86, Stavesacre, Ocean is Theory, The Dark Romantics, and introduced me to a bunch of smaller bands, especially The Human Flight Committee, with their song “She’s A Car Destroyer.”

7: The Devil Wears Prada – I became a fan of TDWP when I saw them at Warped Tour (and crowdsurfed to them). So I was very excited when I found a free sampler containing “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?”

6: The Awkward Romance – The Awkward Romance was already my favorite local band before they came out with this CD, This Song Is Writing Me, but this CD caught me by surprise by how well produced it was. And the fact that they gave it away for free was an even bigger surprise.

5: Capital Lights – What Children 18:3 started was reinforced by the introduction to my of Capital Lights. And what we have here with “Can I Get An Amen” is Capital Lights at their best.

4: Stavesacre – Stavesacre is a band that I’d heard of a for a while but never listened to for the longest time. However, once I saw on here that they had a song (“It’s Beautiful Once You’re Out There”) up for download, I decided to give them a listen. I was far from disappointed, and I must say that I have found one of my new favorite bands.

3: mewithoutYou – As I’ve mentioned before, mewithoutYou is my favorite band. The only reason that this isn’t listed higher is that I already had the song long before I found the download that I featured. Still, they are my favorite band.

2: Tooth & Nail Fuel Sampler – Any Tooth & Nail sampler is gonna have awesome songs on it, but this one caught me by surprise with the artists that I enjoyed the most on it. Now, I already had the great songs from Children 18:3 and Showbread, but this sampler introduced me to Capital Lights and Oh, Sleeper plus it gave me amazing songs from Sever Your Ties and my personal favorite on the whole sampler, “Abracadavers” by The Classic Crime, which was a band I had long ago written off.

1: House of Heroes – Sure, I found it before I found this site, but the three free songs, in combination with the ones they streamed on myspace, held me over until their new CD finally came out in September. “In The Valley Of The Dying Son” has been in my collection since March and has yet to ever at any point get old, and neither have any of the others, which is why this places as the number one download of the 2008.

Honorary Mentions:

Everyday Joe’s – This sampler was no longer available by the time that I found this site, but anything that includes Listener Project is awesome.

Christmas Day 12 – Matt put a ton of work into this post, listing something like 2 dozen artists with Christmas songs up for download.

Thanksgiving

Pumpkin Pie

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone!  I know that Thanksgiving was last week, and everyone is thinking Christmas now, but since I was off eating way more then I should and hanging out my awesome family, I’m going to extend the holiday a couple of days so I can share some of the things I’m thankful for.
First, I’m thankful for you reading this.  When I first started writing TFCMB, I had no idea it would grow into something so huge.  In a little over a year, this blog has gone from 0 hits to over a hundred thousand.  In fact, almost 500 hundred people are are reading this on RSS alone.  That’s nothing short of miracleous.  I’m so blessed that anyone actually reads my ramblings, not to mention sending in downloads, advice, help, and more.  Thank you!
Second, I’m thankful for all of the awesome people, both readers and artists, I’ve been able to meet through this site.  It’s been a blessing for me to be able to serve, whether by recommending music or featuring new artists.

Third, I’m thankful for all of the artists & labels who keep me busy, always generously giving away more and more music.  I’d be out of a job otherwise!

Fourthly (and most importantly), I’m thankful for Jesus Christ and what He did for me, and for all humanity.  Not only could this site not exist without Him, none of us could exist but for His love and grace.  I want it to be know that “this is the blog the God build”, not Matt, or James, or anyone else.  I know for a fact that none of this would have happened but for Him, and to Him be the glory.

That said, happy thanksgiving, and may your turkey’s never trot.  :)   Look for a ton of Christmas music coming soon!

“I’m Still Pressing On (Despite A Even More Bad News)”

As most of you know, I’ve been moving for the last week, which has limited my posting frequency a bit.  James was kind enough to cover for me last week, and I thought I would have time to get back to it this week, until right before supper tonight.  I have WildBlue/Dish Network satellite internet, and they are coming tomorrow to unhook our dish for the move.  The problem is they said it could be 5 business days until they can send someone out to re-install said dish in the new house.  Till then, it looks like I may offline.  :(

I’m hoping and praying that Dish Network will be here sooner then that, but if aren’t, I wanted to make sure everyone is prepared for another intermission.  I guess there is good news.  I do have electricty this time, which I didn’t have during the Great Ice Storm of ‘07.

Update: As me writing this should attest, I’m not offline!  We were able to get the situation figured out.  As much as I appreciate all of the sympathy, I’m glad I’m still connected.

“I’m Pressing On”

Moving has been going really well so far – we’re almost there.  If everything goes right tonight will be the first night in the new house.  If not, tomorrow.  Thankfully I had enough time online last week to keep fairly caught up with email, otherwise I’d be underneath a avalance of epic proportions.  :)   Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that things are going well, and I’ll back in action soon.

Delicious, Nutrious, Free, Cookie

Free Cookie from Kashi

So this a bit off topic, but since I know you love free stuff, and I needed a break from the typical, I think this acceptable.  If you don’t like free food, just skip this post.  If you do, read on.

Kashi (the “seven whole grains on a mission” people) have an awesome promotion going right now.  You can go on their website, and request a 100% free cookie.  They’ll mail a chocolate chip cookie to you, and then you eat the cookie.  It’s that easy.  You can even track your cookie as it’s being delivered.  As to the quality, I’ll say this:

mine was delicious.  :)
