Esterlyn Spotlight
Free music spotlight today on one of my personal favorites, a band called Esterlyn. They have three different songs available online, all from their new CD Lamps. There is also three more available, but I’ll get to that later…
First, about Esterlyn. Please, keep in mind that I may be a little biased. They are a indie rock band on Rooster Records. It’s hard to explain who Esterlyn sounds like, because they don’t sound exactly like anyone. If asked, I would probably say a bit of House of Heroes, some Mute Math, a good deal of Number One Gun, all while maintaining a they’re own sound. Driving guitars, keyboards, clean vocals.
Like I said before, I love Esterlyn. They are one of the few staples on my mp3 player, and are right up with The Wedding, Number One Gun, Disciple, Pillar, and Falling Up as my all-time favorites. They are also without doubt Christians, and it shows in their lyrics.
In short, they are awesome.
Anyway, the first song available is “Tie the Leaves”, on the Indie Vision Music Summer Slam Vol. 2 free sampler. It’s the opening song to Lamps, and one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard. It’s a fast, happy, and short song about how people attempt to copy other people, because they are afraid to be themselves. Thus, they tie leaves on trees to protect themselves. This one was at the top of my favorites list for at least a month.
Next is “Reveal Your Love”. It’s basically a slower, guitar-driven indie-rock worship-song-prayer. It’s available on the band’s MySpace, so long as you have a MySpace account and are signed in. Also very good. While you’re at the band’s MySpace, you can also watch a video about the story of the band’s name, and the debut music video “We All Need”.
Quite possibly the best song of all three, “Faster, Faster” is a catchy rock song. It practically screams summer with the windows down, racing along the highway. Unlike the other songs, this song is actually about a girl, and how she comes to accept Christ. Good stuff. This song is available on the Fighting from the Ground Up Vol. 1 free internet sampler, also released by Indie Vision Music.
Update: Thanks to CCMSingles, I know have another free Esterlyn song download! The song is called “Kill Your Own Despair”, and it’s available on the Interlinc website. It’s an excellent song, which used to be on the band’s MySpace as a free download. Some of you may already have it, some may not.
Update: Once again, thanks to CCMSingles for finding another free song by Esterlyn. The song is “Emptiness”, and looks sweet. The only downside is it replaced “Reveal Your Love” as the free song on the band’s MySpace.
And now for the bonuses. Before Esterlyn was Esterlyn, some of the band members were part of a band called Grand Prize. Stylistically, it was more like Jeremy Camp then the new Esterlyn, but if you want to get the old songs, go right ahead. Jeremy Camp is cool too.
Three Grand Prize songs can be had on the groups MySpace profile.

Free Music From The Myriad

After winning a incredible under-dog victory in the MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout, The Myriad’s new CD, With Arrows With Poise is in stores and online today. Since that’s kind of a big deal, I’m going to spotlight them, even though I only have three songs.
The story of The Myriad is one full of danger, excitement, and a rise to fame. Beginning with You Can’t Trust A Ladder, the band’s critically acclaimed but sadly unheralded debut on Floodgate Records. They released two free songs from this CD project, “Stretched Over” and ”Perfect Obligation”, which were available on Purevolume and the Floodgate website, respectively.
Fast forward a few years. The Myriad is in the running for the MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout. Against all odds, they win, receiving a record deal with Koch Records, and music video play on MTV, MTV2, and MTV Hits.
The Myriad releases A Prelude To Arrows, an EP featuring songs from With Arrows, With Poise. The song “‘Don’t Let Them See You!’” is released in the Downtown Rivals Sampler.
Fast forward again, to right now. The Myriad’s new music video, “A Clean Shot”, is getting heavy playback on all three channels. Their new project, With Arrows, With Poise, is debuting. And to promote the new CD, The Myriad released the song “A Clean Shot” as a free download to MTV’s Discover and Download as well as Download.com.
So listen to the free songs. Enjoy the music. Buy the new CD. Find your part in the legend of The Myriad…
Spotlight: Still Remains Music and Video
Still Remains is joining Superchick and Sullivan as part of the “Artist Spotlight” series. (Honestly, it was an accident that all the artists names start with “S”.)
Anyway, I have quite a few songs from Still Remains. Right now, you can download “White Walls” and “Light Through Skin” at the band’s Purevolume page. They are older songs, “White Walls” being from the bands first CD, Of Love and Lunacy, while “Light Through Skin” is an even older song from the bands second EP, If Love Was Born to Die.
After you get those songs, you can go over to Still Remain’s page on Road Runner Records and download the song “Avalanche”. It’s in 320 kbps., which is double the usual CD quality. While you’re there, you can also check out their awesome new video “Dancing with the Enemy”. It’s totally diverse. You could totally dance to it.
When you’ve got those tracks, you can switch over to the band’s website and try and download “Wax Walls of an Empty Room”. I can’t get the download link to work. If you can do it, let me know. I’d love to get my hands on that song.
As for a bonus, it turns out the backup vocalist for Still Remains, Mike Church, has his own cooking show. Yes, a cooking show. Mike shows you how cook while you listen to songs from the bands latest CD, the Serpent. I didn’t find a link, but you could probably find it on Youtube. Just search for “Cooking with Church”.
Superchick Download Spotlight!
It’s a Superchic[k] Spotlight!
I have five different songs from Superchic[k], all of which are free, all of which are legal, all of which rock.
They are “One Girl Revolution (Remix)”, a anthematic girl song. Then there’s “Hero”, my favorite. It’s about the issues in school that lead up to the Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings. It’s a really powerful song.
Next is “Me Against the World”, from Regeneration, and, if I remember correctly, the Legally Blonde soundtrack. It’s a catchy, fun song about Christians (girls especially) going against the world. Second to last is “Suddenly”, which is my second favorite song after Hero.
You can also download “We Live” as part of the iPop 2008 sampler. It’s a cool song about living life to the fullest. Last but definitely not least is “Wishes”, which is available on the band’s Purevolume profile.
