New Songs Available On AmazonMP3

AmazonMP3 has been adding loads of free mp3s lately, including several by Christian artists, namely, Before Their Eyes, Chasen, and Stellar Kart.

From Stellar Kart, we have the title track from their brand new album Everything Is Different Now, which is also available on FreeCCM.

-Stellar Kart “Everything Is Different Now” on AmazonMP3-

From Chasen, a great song & one of my favorites from them, “Eyes of A Rescue”, also available from FreeCCM.

-Chasen “Eyes Of A Rescue” on AmazonMP3-

And, lastly, the latest single and very cool song “Sing To Me” from Before Their Eyes, from the band’s latest Untouchable.  I like this one a lot.

-Before Their Eyes “Sing To Me” on AmazonMP3-

I’d recommend picking up all three if you’re able.  Also, those three are in addition to the many Christian songs already available on AmazonMP3, like BarlowGirl’s “Hello Sunshine”, Big Daddy Weave’ “In Christ”, Rachel Lampa’s “You Lift Me Up”, and Jaci Velasquez’s “Adore”, plus more besides.  Enjoy!

Tweet ‘N’ Win A Free Sampler

If you’re on Twitter, you’re going to want to pay attention right now.  Sidewalk Prophets, the Winter Jam Tour, and Word Records are giving away a very nice 8 song sampler in return for tweeting a message.  Here’s what’s on the sampler:

  • Remedy Drive – “Stand Up”
  • Big Daddy Weave – “Just Like Somebody Else”
  • Meredith Andrews – “Who Is Like You”
  • Group 1 Crew – “Our Time”
  • Sidewalk Prophets – “For What It’s Worth”
  • Francesca Battistelli – “Forever Love”
  • PureNRG – “Overwhelmed”
  • BarlowGirl – “Hello Sunshine”

My songs are still downloading, so I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I have heard several of the songs before, and there’s some awfully good stuff.  To grab a copy, just head to Sidewalk Prophets’ VanGo mini-site, type in your email, and send a tweet, which will give you access to a code to download the sampler from iTunes.  Check it out!

Hello Sunshine

BarlowGirl Love & WarConsidering the cold wave sweeping America right now, I thought this would a fairly appropriate time to post about this – AmazonMP3 is giving away BarlowGirl’s bright and cheery song “Hello Sunshine”, from the trio’s latest Love & War.  It might not make the all the snow go away, but it may help you get through it.  Enjoy!

-BarlowGirl’s “Hello Sunshine” on AmazonMP3-

Note:  Of course, even it’s not cold, snowy, or icy where you live, you can download the song anyway.  ;)

What’s Hot This Week

There’s quite a few different limited-time downloads going on right now, here’s the highlights:

Pillar is giving away their rockin’ song “Fire On the Inside” for free for 24 hours from their website.  So far as I can tell the download will only be available until midnight tonight (Sept. 8 2009), so do yourself a favor and just get the song ASAP.  :)

-Pillar’s Website-

Tangle is offering a free download of Bethany Dillon’s new song “Everyone to Know” for this week, from her new album Stop & Listen.  “Everyone to Know” is also Bethany’s latest single, and is currently available on iTunes.  Of course, it’s also free on Tangle, so if I were you, I’d grab a copy while I can.

-Tangle.com-

Also free this week is BarlowGirl’s new music video “Beautiful Ending”.  It’s from their new album Love & War, and seems to set in the Victorian era.  Also, I think the father in the video looks a little like Orlando Bloom.  Maybe it’s just me.  Anyways…

-“Beautiful Ending” on VideoRocket-

And if that’s not enough for you, you can also download three songs from Thalon, Jeremy Scott, and Abandon Kansas from iTickets.  I can definitely speak for Thalon & Abandon Kansas as good rock groups, and Jeremy Scott sounds pretty good too.  Get the songs.  No, really, do it.  Now.

-iTicket’s Free Music Page-

On another note, if you’re not signed up for HearItFirst.com’s newsletter, you need to be.  Last week, they gave away songs from Philmont & Abandon, the week before, Leeland, and there will be more free music in this week’s email.  Don’t miss that either.

-HearItFirst.com-

Well, that’s it for this week, look for more great, free music next week.  Till then, this is Matt, signing off, hanging it up…  :)

Now Hear This! Discover New Music!

Now Hear This

That’s right, I think it’s time that we heard and started discovering some good new music. Well, EMI CMG’s new artist promotion has made it possible for us to do just that. At Amazon’s MP3 store, you can get either Now Hear This – Pop or Now Hear This – Rock. The pop sampler includes the artists Sarah Reeves, Josh Wilson, Phillip LaRue, Kristian Stanfill, Christy Nockels, and Jason Allen Rich. The rock sampler includes Danyew, Above The Golden State, Philmont, Future of Forestry, Seven Stories Up, and Capital Lights. Several of the songs on Now Hear This were also given as free downloads at tangle.com as well. So if you can’t access an Amazon account, you can search tangle.com and pick some of them up there. Also, Amazon requires you to purchase each sampler as a whole to get it free. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay $0.99 for each song. I don’t know why it is like that, but I’d take both samplers for free rather than buying it song by song. ;-)

As a side note, you can also get your hands on this sampler at your local Christian bookstore with a purchase an album by any of the featured artists.

-Now Hear This: Discover New Music – Pop on Amazon.com-

-Now Hear This: Discover New Music – Rock on Amazon.com-

While you’re on Amazon, you can also pick yet another Christian music sample. Yes, you heard me right. This time, the sampler is from the Word Label Group. You might have seen the new 6 Picks: Essential Radio Essentials from artists such as, Stellar Kart, Big Daddy Weave, or Sixpence None the Richer. Each 6 Picks EP is compromised of the six best songs from each respective artist. It’s sort of like a ‘best of’ album, just that it’s an EP. Anyway, you can get the 6 Picks Radio Hits Sampler for free at Amazon. This sampler includes Big Daddy Weave, Building 429, Barlowgirl, Rachael Lampa, Sixpence None The Richer, and Jaci Velasquez.

Matt’s Top 10 Favorite Posts of 2008

Happy New Year!  It’s hard to believe that it’s 2009 already.  Strangely enough, it doesn’t feel much different from 2008 so far.  Hmm.  Anyway, James came up with a great idea for the end of the year.  We’re both going to go through last years posts and pick our top ten.  There was a ton of great music last year, and I had trouble narrowing it down to just 10, but I finally succeeded.  Without further ado, my list:

10.  Tie: Jonathon Steingard’s Atlantis EP & Fighting the Fall- I just couldn’t decide on this.  The Atlantis EP is an excellent & personal solo debut from Hawk Nelson’s guitarist Jonathon Steingard that I really like.  On the other hand, Fighting the Fall is a talented independant emo/screamo band with two good free songs.  Both Atlantis & the FtF downloads are still available.

9.  Run Kid Run “One In A Million” and Sanctus Real “Turn On The Lights” – “Turn On The Lights” is a great song, but the real reason I particularly love this post was “One In A Million”.  It’s an awesome, catchy song that I can’t get enough of.  Sadly, both songs are no longer available.

8.  Leeland “Opposite Way” – Not only do I like the song, but I also really like what Leeland did by asking fans to share their stories about “going the opposite way”.  This one is still available, if you’d like to check it out.

7.  The Devil Wears Prada, Burden of a Day, Before Their Eyes – It’s hard to top The Devil Wears Prada, and when you add in two promising new bands like Burden of a Day (with an excusive demo, I might add) and Before Their Eyes, it’s probably going to be good.  Still available.

6.  The Tooth & Nail Fuel Sampler – I shouldn’t really need to explain this one much.  Something like 25 free songs from the best Tooth & Nail Records bands.  My favorites are Run Kid Run, Capital Lights, and The Becoming.  By the looks of it, this sampler is still available too.

5.  House of Heroes’ FreeHoH .com – Three awesome songs from The End Is Not The End, House of Heroes’ latest that could very well be the best CD of the year.  Really, really good.  As far as I can tell the songs are still available.

4.  Staple “Dictatorship vs. Democracy” – I don’t know what it is about this song, but I just don’t get tired of it.  This one has been on my mp3 player all year, and I still love it.  This one is also still available.

3.  Number One Gun – Pure alternative rock goodness.  I don’t think I can begin to count how many times I’ve listened to these three songs this year.  Still available, and highly recommended.

2.  Three Cord Wonder – Even though they may not have been the next big thing musically, I think Three Cord Wonder was one of the coolest Christian bands I featured this year.  I listen to a lot of music, and I rarely ever get to hear such a unashamedly Christian band.  Sure, the lyrics are simple, but they’re true, and give glory to God.  That’s a band I can look up to.

1.  Esterlyn – I’d never heard of the group Esterlyn before 2008, and now, they’re one of my top artists.  In fact, I liked their music enough to write up a whole spotlight on them.  Extremely good.

There you have it, the year 2008 in free Christian music as seen by Matt.  Now, even though those were my favorite free music posts, there were a couple of others that deserve mention simply because they were particularly fun, random, and unusual.  That list includeds No More Gloom, the free CD Everyday Joe’s Coffee House (in Fort Collins, Colorado) released, featuring different songs by artists who’ve played there, which was really random.  And then there’s the BarlowGirl song on the German site that required step-by-step instructions.  That was a lot of fun to write up.  And, last but not least, the mind-blowing weird song titles post.  That was so much fun to research and write for, and totally random too.

That’s why I decided to start stockpiling song titles for version 2, which you can look for sometime soon.  Like last time, I’d love it if everyone could contribute their favorite weird-and-wacky titles.  Leave a comment, or shot me an email at freechristianmusicblog@gmail.com.  Thank everyone for reading, and happy New Year!

Oh, and I just remembered, I was going to ask what your favorite posts from 2008 were.  Do you agree with me, or have your own top pick?

Christmas Series: Day 12 – A Bit Of Everything

It’s Christmas Eve, and thanks to many reader suggestions, I have more then enough songs to finish up this year’s Christmas series. In fact, I’ve got so many left, this post is going to be predominately composed of links. This post is going to be a bit of a endurance event, so make sure you’ve got a while to dedicate to downloading. I kid you not, there is a TON of music to come. Brace yourself. Oh, yeah, and merry Christmas! :)

Let’s kick it off with Shane & Shane. They’ve got their song “Away in A Manger” available from Today’s Christian Woman. Actually, Mandisa, Sara Groves, and Casting Crowns all have songs on that site too.

Alli Rogers has a brand new Christmas EP up on NoiseTrade. It’s called The Silent Stars EP, and you can pay want you want for it, or get it for free by sharing it with 5 friends. Also on NoiseTrade is the Christmas edition of The Silent’s CD Unseen, featuring their version of “We Three Kings”. To top those two, you can also get a free compilation featuring songs from the Love Came Down A Christmas Time Tour. The sampler has songs from all 4 artists on the tour, Jars of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, Sara Groves, and Leeland. Very cool. Check it here.

If that’s still not enough music for you, GodTube has got free Christmas songs from Travis Ryan, Rachel Scott, and Sara Groves, plus some other goodies. Then there’s two free songs from High Valley on the Centricity Record’s website. Leigh Nash has a free Christmas song on Download.com, Theocracy has a wild Christmas song called “Rudolph vs. Frosty” up on their website, and then there’s The Staple Singers, who have “No Room at the Inn” up on Download.com.

Sixpence None the Richer, Sara Groves, and DecembeRadio all have Christmas songs available for free on JesusFreakHideout.com, iTicket’s has a Christmas download from Gabriela Hindy, plus two other songs from Abandon and Mission Six. Asthmatic Kitty Records has two free Sufjan Stevens Christmas songs available too.
Amazon.com has got numerous free songs from the likes of Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, Jars of Clay, Mannheim Steamroller, Big Daddy Weave, Jim Brickman, David Phelps, and BarlowGirl.

BarlowGirl, Jars of Clay, Chris Sligh, and Casting Crowns all have free mp3s available on CCM Magazine’s website.

I think Don Francisco wins the award for the most songs available. 21 on his website!

Even though it’s not a download, The Advantage has added a cool Christmas song to their MySpace profile. It’s called “Retail Christmas”, and it’s actually quite good. Here’s hoping they do a free download of it soon.

Brian Bate’s has an interesting free download. It works on a honor system – something you sadly don’t see much of any more. Anyway, the song is “Mary Christmas” and it’s available on his website.

Willet’s website, after being down for weeks, is finally up and running again with a free original Christmas song by the band. It’s called “The Nativity”, and looks pretty good.

Speaking of independent rock, the group The Violet Burning has got a full Christmas CD for free this year. It’s called Divine, and you can check that out on their website.

And, to close, Sleeping At Last has three Christmas downloads up on their Virb profile, plus one live song and another normal track.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Riddle Me This

iTicket’s has got three free songs on their website this week, all of which are Christmas songs.  To make this interesting (and because I’m bored :) )  I’m not going to say who the artists are, only the song titles.  That way you can try and guess the artist that goes with it.  One of them is pretty easy, but the rest should be a challenge.  (Or, perhaps, more accurately, impossible.  I forgot that they were all Christmas songs.  Oh well.  You can still enjoy the music.)

  • Song 1:  “Angels We Have Heard On High”
  • Song 2:  “Just A Single Season”
  • Song 3:  “Panis Angelicus”

Enjoy!

Christmas 08: It’s Coming!

Matt MaherIt’s December 3, and iTicket’s has got two Christmas downloads on there site this week.  The first, by BarlowGirl, is a mp3 from their latest CD, Home For Christmas called “Panis Angelicus”.  I’m pretty sure the title is Latin, but beyond that I have no idea what it means.  If anyone could translate that I would appreciate it!  :)

Edit: “Panis Angelicus” means “bread of angels” in Latin. Thanks everyone!

The other song is thankfully a bit easier to figure out.  It’s called “Silent Night (Emmanuel)”, and it’s a new Christmas song by Matt Maher.  (Matt’s probably best know for the song “Your Grace Is Enough”, which he wrote and Chris Tomlin recorded.)  I haven’t had an opportunity to hear either song yet, but if you like either band (or Christmas music in general) you’ll definitely want to grab the songs.

Free Christmas Music from BarlowGirl, Casting Crowns, and More!

Would someone tell CCM Magazine that’s still October? :) It seems like they are putting out Christmas downloads already, with some great free-and-festive songs from Casting Crowns, BarlowGirl, Sixpence None The Richer, Sara Groves, the Annie Moses Band, and Shane & Shane.

The names of the groups should speek for them selves, and as I look at the site, it looks like the downloads are only going to be there for a week, so I’ll stop typing and let you go and check them out yourselves. Oh, and merry Christmas!
