Disciple

The Weekly Downloads: Jan. 19 ~ Jan. 25

It’s been a pretty good week for free music so far, especially if you’re an Above The Golden State fan – both iTickets and New Release Tuesday are giving away a song each from the group’s new EP The Golden Rule.  NRT has the song “I Am Loved”, and iTickets has the title track “The Golden Rule”.  Check them out!

Also available this week is Jason Gray’s song “For the First Time Again”, from Tangle.

FreeCCM has a free download from Disciple, the title track from the band’s latest Southern Hospitality.

Rounding up the music list this week is Sarah Sadler’s song “Dedicated”, which you can nab for free from Gospel Music Channel.

And last but not least, Video Rocket is featuring the trailer for the new movie To Save A Life this week.  I haven’t seen the movie myself (at least not yet), but I’ve been hearing some good things about it, and the trailer looks pretty interesting.  Worth checking if you ask me.

Connersvine + Ansley + iTicket’s = This Post

Several new tidbits of news…

  • ConnersvineFreeCCM.com has added a new Connersvine song, “Lay Down”. I’ve lost track of how many different free songs I’ve gotten from Connersvine, but I must be close to having their full CD by now. Okay, maybe not, but this song is getting me one step closer.   :)
  • -FreeCCM.com-

  • Speaking of Connersvine, I was on their website last night and it turns out they’ve got a pretty interesting blog going.  If you ever wanted to know what they think of American Idol (and quite a few other things), well, now you can find out.  Check it out!

-Connersvine.com-

  • iTicket’s has got two new songs for this next week, from Israel Houghton and Disciple. Disciple’s “Lay My Burdens” is a great power-ballad with an equally great message, while Israel Houghton’s “The Power of One (Change the World)” is a urban/hip-hop/gospel/something-else-altogether-that-I-can’t-put-my-finger-on song.  It’s not really my thing, but hey, that’s just me.  It’s still a good track, and besides that, it’s free.  Enjoy!

  • Last but definitely not least, I’m happy to announce (*drum roll please*)… Ansley! She wrote the post last week about The Civil Wars to cover for me while I was many miles away from home in the Windy City.  She (and possibly some other people) have volunteered to help me out by doing some writing for TFCMB. These next couple of weeks look like they’ll be extremely busy for me, so I’m extremely grateful for the help.  Please, go and welcome Ansley on her post:)

Till next time, this is Matt, signing off…

Music, News, Music, News

It’s a rainy, dull day at my place today, so I’m going to take the time to get caught up with some site announcements, music news, and of course, some free music.

freeccm_150banner1.gif

To kick it off, FreeCCM.com has added quite a few new songs to their site, including cuts from Building 429, Phil Wickham, Sara Groves, 33 Miles, Caedmon’s Call, Chris Rice, and a sweet rockin’ song from Disciple’s latest CD called “Whisper So Loud”.  FreeCCM has been updating a lot lately, so it might be a good idea to get these songs soon.

-FreeCCM.com-

It looks like the next couple of months are going to be busy ones for me, and since James isn’t going to be available to back me up, posting may be a bit sporadic.  I hope not, but if I’m not available, I thought you should know.

That brings me to the second order of business.  I would love to bring in a few more writers to help keep the site current.  That would make my life a lot easier and give me more time to find more free music, reply to emails, improve the site, etc.  If you like Christian music, like writing, and have a lot of free time, and might be interested, I’d appreciate it if you’d pray about it, and if God says yes, send me an email.  My address is on the Contact page.

Now, how about some more music.  iTicket’s has got an unprecented FOUR free songs this week, from Mandisa, House of Heroes, Veggie Tales, and Brad & Rebekah Bichsel.  I’ve only heard the House of Heroes song before (it’s “In The Valley of the Dying Sun” again), so I suggest you go and form your own opinions.

Now, let me see, what else has been happening in the music world.  Aha, yes!  The website VideoRocket is giving away the incredible music video from House of Heroes, “In The Valley of the Dying Sun”.  VideoRocket is somehow affiliated with iTickets, hence the same song both places. The video is in QuickTime format, at fair quality.  Check it out!

RadioU.com
Moving right along, I was checking RadioU‘s Insider earlier this week and was amazed to see that they had linked to my post on the Fuel Magazine Tooth & Nail sampler.  I was so totally blown away at the time I had trouble speaking.  RadioU has been my favorite radio station for the last couple years, so it’s a huge honor to linked by them.  Not only do they play amazing music, they also keep the focus on God, and on Christ.  I really respect that, so I think it’s pretty sweet that they read TFCMB.

Anyway, I think that’s about it…

Free Songs from Disciple, Matthew West, and Josh Wilson

Free music today from a couple of talented artists, Disciple, Matthew West, and Josh Wilson.  Now Disciple is one of the best Christian heavy rock groups in existance.  They are pretty much amazing.  You can snag a free copy of their balled-ish song “After the World”.  It was (to my knowledge) the band’s first slower hit, and got heavy rotation on many Christian radio stations who don’t normally play Disciple.  Honestly, I don’t like this song as well as Disciple’s louder stuff, but, it’s free, so I can’t really complain.  :)   Grab the song for free from TotalAxxess.  (Limited time deal, so move fast!)

-TotalAxxess.com-

Also with some new, free music, iTicket’s has got several new songs from Matthew West and Josh Wilson.  Sadly, I haven’t had a chance to give the songs a listen yet, so I can’t really review them – you’ll just have to go and get them yourself.

Speedlinking Thursday: An Introduction

Today’s I’m going to be trying something a bit differently.  Instead of writing up individual free-music-sources, I’m going to speedlink them – that is, link either to the download itself or to another blogger who already wrote up the download.

Plus, I’m going to throw in something cool from the archives and maybe a music video or two.  Let me know what you think in the comments. Ready, set, speedlink!

1.  FreeCCM.com has new free music from Decyfer Down, P.O.D., Caedmon’s Call, and Todd Agnew.

2.  Indie Vision Music recently found a sweet sampler featuring War Of Ages, Means, For Today, Kingston Falls, Wrench In The Works, and more.  That’s some sick hardcore.

3.  “Perservence of the Saints” is a classic music video by the O.C. Supertones.  Old school, and awesome.

4.  Disciple’s “Back Again” is this week’s blast from the past – great headbanger.

Quick Announcement

I’ve decided to make a minor change in my posting schedule here at The Free Christian Music Blog. From now on, I’m going to be taking a “day of rest” from posting on Sunday. It will give me a little more free time, which is good, and a little less stress, which is also good.

One last thing: Somehow, Family Force 5 just shot past Disciple in Song Combat. Disciple fans had better rally, because they are behind by 10. At time of writing, anyway.

Song Combat: Disciple Vs. Family Force 5

[Song Combat]

Disciple – “The Wait is Over”
vs.
Family Force 5 – “Never Let Me Go”

This could very well be the most evenly matched Song Combat I’ve done yet. Hard-hitting Christian rock staple Disciple vs. the southern phenomenon Family Force 5. It’s gonna be close…

First, in case you aren’t familiar with Song Combat, let me explain. It’s something I thought of to help get your opinion on the music I feature. You vote for your favorite song in the poll on the TFCMB homepage.

Then, the winner gets featured (meaning you get the song), and the loser doesn’t. In fact, the loser get put in a special folder, deep inside my Firefox bookmarks, where it will stay until I decide to rescue it. Since that’s a bad thing, you’ll want to make sure you vote!

For those not familiar with Disciple, they are a Christian hard rock band. I lost track of how many CDs they’ve released, but it’s a lot. Rather then writing any more of a description, I’m going to send you to Disciple’s Purevolume, where you can listen to a couple songs and grab a free copy of another song, “Scars Remain”.

Family Force 5 is pure energy, with a quirky sense of humor, and a love of dancing. They are also Christians. This song (“Never Let Me Go”) in particular, is an example of how they can write very creative, heart-felt, songs, while still rockin’ like crazy. I’m not sure what else to say.

Remember, “vote early, vote often”.

Free Download from Creation Festival

Seabird Free music today from one of the biggest festivals in Christian music, Creation Festival. The festival is giving away one song a month on iTunes.

Here’s how it works: You go to the website, give in the form, and they’ll send you a code so you can get the song on iTunes. Thus far they’ve featured Disciple, Britt Nicole, Worth Dying For, Stellar Kart. Currently, the band is Seabird. I haven’t been able to try it out (no iTunes account), but it looks like a great way to get Seabird’s “Not Alone”.

Disciple, Echoing Angels, Caedmon’s Call, and Sarah Kelly

When it rains it pours. Both FreeCCM.com and FreeGotee.com have new music. In case you aren’t familiar with them, both FreeCCM and FreeGotee are run by Christian record labels, making them definitely legal.

DiscipleLet’s get started with FreeCCM. The site now has “All Across the Western World”, by Caedmon’s Call, “Make It Better” by Echoing Angels, and my favorite, Disciple’s “Dive”. You do need to be a FreeCCM member to download the songs.

-Disciple, Echoing Angels, and Caedmon’s Call on FreeCCM.com-

Sarah KellyFreeGotee also added new music, with a free download from Sarah Kelly. You can download her song “Born to Worship” free, so long as you are a FreeGotee member.

5 Sites: If You’re Not Signed-Up, You’re Missing Out

Over the years I’ve come across quite a few good sites with free and legal Christian music, but occasionally, I’ve found some great sites. Sites you have to join access. And it’s worth it. This is a list of my favorite members-only free music sites.

(It will probable be changed from time to time, so be sure to bookmark this page!)

5. MySpace.com – Despite user security issues, if you want to access the music stored on MySpace, you’ll need an account. Personally, I have a “junk” account that I use to download songs. Just make sure to talk to your parents about it.

4. FreeCCM.com – The only record label-run site to update it’s selection occasionally. Right now, it has music from The Afters, Addison Road, Laura Story. Previously it’s had Skillet, Disciple, MercyMe, and more. Definitely a site to watch.

3. iTickets – Since MyFreeMusicFriday is pretty much dead, I’ve decided to replace them with new comers iTickets. They are giving away one song a week to all iTickets members. Sign-up is a pain, but after that it’s easy to get the music, lyrics, and concert info.

2. The Free Christian Music Blog – Umm, this is a bit awkward, but even if I didn’t run it, I would still recommend it. I usually post once daily, with any style of music possible. Sign-up box is on the right at the top of the page. :)

1. HearItFirst.com – One of the oldest and best site for Christian music. You have got to sign-up for the mailing list. Once a week they’ll send you a free song to your inbox. I just got Sanctus Real’s “We Need Each Other” free, just for being a member. Admittedly, the website is confusing, but in this case the pros (music) out weight the cons (annoyances).
