High Flight Society
Free CD from The Awkward Romance
Today wraps up my unofficial two-part series on local-bands-that-I-like-and-think-should-have-record-deals. Today’s band, unlike last weeks, has unfortunately broken up. The Awkward Romance was a four-piece from Covington, Georgia. Since Halloween was Friday, I’m putting up this picture of them dressed as comic book villains. Anyway, because of their breaking up, they are giving away their new CD “This Song is Writing Me” for free on their myspace blog. I’ve been a fan of the band for a while, but when I heard this CD, I was blown away. If what Ive said so far isn’t convincing you to go download this album, the fact that Jason Wilkes of High Flight Society did guest vocals on two tracks might. The tracks I recommend most are “Mildly Concerned Samaritan,” “Singing To The Choir,” and the final track, which features local rap group The Remnant, “Ad Astra Per Aspera.” Yes, this is a band with a lot of clever and/or weird titles, such as “Girls don’t do Math” and “Hey Judas Called, He Wants His Sense Of Loyalty Back,” which are both on this CD as well.

Edit: If the link isn’t working it might help to copy and paste the url. And then check to make sure there isn’t a space on the end.
Also, for a limited time you can also download some b-sides from the album off of their Purevolume page. Once these are removed they will probably put some of their older songs up for download there again.
