Laura Story

The Weekly Downloads: Feb. 9 ~ Feb. 15

It’s been a pretty fair week for free music, with good songs, but several repeats.  Despite that, there’s still a few new songs, like Vicky Beeching’s “Blessing And Honor” available from iTickets, and Chris Rice’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” at FreeCCM.  I haven’t heard a chance to listen to either yet, so you’ll have discover them for yourself.

Also available is VOTA’s catchy song “Be Mine” from GMC, Laura Story’s “What A Savior” from Tangle, and the rockin’ title track from Fireflight’s latest, For Those Who Wait, available from New Release Tuesday.  Enjoy!

The Weekly Downloads: Feb. 2 ~ Feb. 8

Gospel Music Channel has had a pretty big week – on Tuesday, they officially changed their name from “Gospel Music Channel” to just “GMC”.  Thankfully, the name changed hasn’t affect their weekly free download, with this week’s free song being Israel Houghton’s “The Power of One (Change the World)”.  It’s a slow, soulful track, not really my style, but hey, it’s free, so I’m not complaining.

Also available this week are Stephanie Smith’s “Heart Attack” from iTickets and Laura Story’s “What A Savior” (straight off the new Catalyst Music Project album) from New Release Tuesday.  “Heart Attack” is from Stephanie’s new self-titled EP, and (in my opinion), definitely something to check out.  Not Afraid, Stephanie’s debut, was definitely on the pop side of pop/rock, but from what I’ve heard of the new EP, it’s very much on the rock side of the spectrum, almost along the lines of Paramore.  I like it.

And available from FreeCCM this week is Phillips, Craig, & Dean’s “Counting On God”, track #1 from the trio’s latest Fearless.  Honestly, it didn’t sound much like the Phillips, Craig, & Dean that I’ve known, but it’s still quite the decent song, and I’m glad I got it.  Check it out:

Rounding out the week is the new band Me In Motion, whose debut video for their song “Losers” is being featured this week as a free download on VideoRocket.  I saw the video for the first time on GMC yesterday, and caught myself singing the song hours later – it’s worth getting if you ask me.

And that’s it for the Weekly Downloads this week, not a lot of music available, but it’s all fairly good stuff, so I’m not complaining.

The Weekly Downloads: Jan. 5 ~ Jan. 11

Well, it’s good to be getting back into the swing of things after the New Year – it seemed like the music world almost shut down the week between Christmas and January 1st.  Thankfully, everything seems to be picking back up again, and this week there’s quite a nice selection of free songs available – plus, a music video from a great new artist, The Contact.

First up this week, Gospel Music Channel has Philmont’s energetic and extremely catchy “Back Down” available, from the band’s Attention album.  If you didn’t get this from the HearItFirst newsletter last summer, I’d definitely recommend picking it up now.

Next up, another very catchy track, this time from John Reuben and New Release Tuesday.  The song is “No Be Nah”, from Mr. Reuben’s latest.  “No Be Nah” has been available several other places so far, but if you missed out on picking it before, and you happen to be a member of NRT, now’s a great chance to snag it.

Also available is Laura Story’s new song “What A Savior”, which is straight off the new Catalyst Music Project album.  It’s free this week on FreeCCM.com, or you can download it from the Catalyst Music Project as well.  Check it out!

Next up, VideoRocket.com is offering new artist The Contact’s music video for their current single “My Divine”.  I first heard these guys on last year’s Huntington University sampler, and I was extremely impressed – definitely worth checking out.  Enjoy!

As if that’s not enough, Tangle.com is giving away Jonny Diaz’s song “Love Like You Loved”.  The song has a bit of a Jimmy Needham vibe, maybe a bit of Brandon Heath, and is really pretty good.

Rounding out this week’s list is worship leader Brandon Bee’s song “Your Holiness”.  It’s from Brandon’s album This Is The Revolution, and it’s available from iTickets.

Free Tracks from Laura Story, Mission Six, Revive, & B. Reith

Great God Who Saves Laura Story

Free music today from four differnet artists on two different sites.  FreeCCM just added a new song from Laura Story called “Immortal, Invisible” from her debut Great God Who Saves. You might have heard her rendition of “Mighty to Save” on the radio if you listen to much CCM.  It’s a pretty popular song.  Anyway, “Immortal, Invisible” is a  good praise & worship song from Laura.  I’m not 100% sure, but I think I’m picking up some banjo on the track. Maybe it’s just me, but I do think the song has a bit of a folky feel.  Check it out:

The other three songs are from iTickets (as usual… :) ).  They’ve got B. Reith’s “Mess”, which has an almost urban feel to it, “Superhero” by Mission Six, for fans of tween pop, and new artist Revive’s “Chorus of the Saints”.  I haven’t heard anything from Revive before, but I have a couple of friends who are really excited for their CD, so I’m sure it’ll be worthwhile.  Plus, it’s free.  What do you have to lose?  :)

FreeCCM – INO, Do You?

Okay, that was probably the worst pun in the history of the internet, but FreeCCM.com has added several new songs free to their website from contemporary Christian artists like Laura Story, Addison Road, and Echoing Angels.  The songs are “Great God Who Saves” for Laura Story, “Start Over Again” by Addison Road, and last but not least “Living Inside of Me” from Echoing Angels.  You do need an account at FreeCCM to access the songs, but it’s a quick and painless affair.  Really.  Enjoy!

5 Sites: If You’re Not Signed-Up, You’re Missing Out

Over the years I’ve come across quite a few good sites with free and legal Christian music, but occasionally, I’ve found some great sites. Sites you have to join access. And it’s worth it. This is a list of my favorite members-only free music sites.

(It will probable be changed from time to time, so be sure to bookmark this page!)

5. MySpace.com – Despite user security issues, if you want to access the music stored on MySpace, you’ll need an account. Personally, I have a “junk” account that I use to download songs. Just make sure to talk to your parents about it.

4. FreeCCM.com – The only record label-run site to update it’s selection occasionally. Right now, it has music from The Afters, Addison Road, Laura Story. Previously it’s had Skillet, Disciple, MercyMe, and more. Definitely a site to watch.

3. iTickets – Since MyFreeMusicFriday is pretty much dead, I’ve decided to replace them with new comers iTickets. They are giving away one song a week to all iTickets members. Sign-up is a pain, but after that it’s easy to get the music, lyrics, and concert info.

2. The Free Christian Music Blog – Umm, this is a bit awkward, but even if I didn’t run it, I would still recommend it. I usually post once daily, with any style of music possible. Sign-up box is on the right at the top of the page. :)

1. HearItFirst.com – One of the oldest and best site for Christian music. You have got to sign-up for the mailing list. Once a week they’ll send you a free song to your inbox. I just got Sanctus Real’s “We Need Each Other” free, just for being a member. Admittedly, the website is confusing, but in this case the pros (music) out weight the cons (annoyances).

Mp3s From The Afters, Laura Story, and Addison Road!

The AftersFreeCCM.com, the free music website run by INO Records, just added new music this past week. It now has brand new songs from The Afters, Addison Road, Laura Story.

The songs are “Forty-Two” for the Afters, from the CD Never Going Back to OK, “It Just Takes One” for Addison Road, from their self titled, and last but not least the title track from Laura Story’s Bless the Lord. I’d also like to call attention to the fact that none of the three songs are available anywhere else right now. Go get em’!
