Sanctus Real

The Weekly Downloads: Mar. 9 ~ Mar. 15

I was pretty excited Tuesday morning when I logged into New Release Tuesday, and saw not one but two downloads, Sanctus Real’s “Forgiven” and Passion’s “Our God”.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to “Our God” yet, but “Forgiven” is Sanctus Real’s latest single & a downright amazing song, so if you ask me, it’s a must-get.  Enjoy!

-NRT’s Free Music Page-

Also sporting two trendy new downloads this week is iTickets, with Robbie Seay Band’s “Miracle” and Carlos Whittaker’s “Rain It Down”.

-iTickets’ Free Music Page-

Next up is a download from Addison Road, courtesy of FreeCCM – this is either the fourth or fifth free song I’ve gotten from their self-titled debut.

-Addison Road “Start Over Again” on FreeCCM-

Wrapping up this week’s batch of downloads is Stellar Kart’s “Everything Is Different Now” on Tangle.com.  Since that song is already available from at least two different websites it’s not all that exciting to see it available again, but what is exciting is the fact that Tangle’s updated their website, which will hopefully mean more free tunes from their each week.

-Tangle.com-

That’s it for this week, and by the way, you may have noticed I’ve been trying to keep these a bit shorter then I used to.  That’s because most of the downloads are often available elsewhere, and I’d rather be working on something that many of you don’t already have.  That said, hang on, because there’s a lot more new music coming soon.  :)

These Things Take Time

Sanctus Real Pieces Of A Real HeartFree music today from Sanctus Real!  The band is giving away the song “These Things Take Time” from their yet-to-be-released album Pieces Of A Real Heart, and that the band is asking for it is either a tweet to Twitter or a post to Facebook.  (It’s just like the promotions TobyMac and Above the Golden State ran awhile back.)

It’s a great song, which isn’t a surprise, since I’ve yet to hear a Sanctus Real song I haven’t at least liked, if not loved.  You can definitely tell that their sound is changed some from We Need Each Other, but it’s still Sanctus Real, and from what I’ve heard the album looks to be a good one.  Check it out!

Free Rare Song Download from Sanctus Real (+ Bluetree!)

Looks like Mark Schultz isn’t the only one giving away free music in widgets these days – check the tour widget above for a free, exclusive, rare, acoustic, version of Sanctus Real’s “Whatever You’re Doing (Something Heavenly)”. I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I know the original version of the song is amazing, and that Sanctus Real doesn’t disappoint, so it’s probably great as usual. :)

Credit goes to GivMusic.com for finding this, and the Mark Schultz download as well. While your Sanctus Real song is downloading, I’d recommending checking them out – and grabbing a free download from the new worship band Bluetree from their website while you’re at it. :)

Edit: I’m having trouble getting the Sanctus Real song to download for me – it seems the audio file is corrupted or something. :( Is anyone else having that problem?

Edit (Again): The download just worked for me – if you had issues before, I’d try and re-download the song again now.  :)

Matt’s Top 10 Favorite Posts of 2008

Happy New Year!  It’s hard to believe that it’s 2009 already.  Strangely enough, it doesn’t feel much different from 2008 so far.  Hmm.  Anyway, James came up with a great idea for the end of the year.  We’re both going to go through last years posts and pick our top ten.  There was a ton of great music last year, and I had trouble narrowing it down to just 10, but I finally succeeded.  Without further ado, my list:

10.  Tie: Jonathon Steingard’s Atlantis EP & Fighting the Fall- I just couldn’t decide on this.  The Atlantis EP is an excellent & personal solo debut from Hawk Nelson’s guitarist Jonathon Steingard that I really like.  On the other hand, Fighting the Fall is a talented independant emo/screamo band with two good free songs.  Both Atlantis & the FtF downloads are still available.

9.  Run Kid Run “One In A Million” and Sanctus Real “Turn On The Lights” – “Turn On The Lights” is a great song, but the real reason I particularly love this post was “One In A Million”.  It’s an awesome, catchy song that I can’t get enough of.  Sadly, both songs are no longer available.

8.  Leeland “Opposite Way” – Not only do I like the song, but I also really like what Leeland did by asking fans to share their stories about “going the opposite way”.  This one is still available, if you’d like to check it out.

7.  The Devil Wears Prada, Burden of a Day, Before Their Eyes – It’s hard to top The Devil Wears Prada, and when you add in two promising new bands like Burden of a Day (with an excusive demo, I might add) and Before Their Eyes, it’s probably going to be good.  Still available.

6.  The Tooth & Nail Fuel Sampler – I shouldn’t really need to explain this one much.  Something like 25 free songs from the best Tooth & Nail Records bands.  My favorites are Run Kid Run, Capital Lights, and The Becoming.  By the looks of it, this sampler is still available too.

5.  House of Heroes’ FreeHoH .com – Three awesome songs from The End Is Not The End, House of Heroes’ latest that could very well be the best CD of the year.  Really, really good.  As far as I can tell the songs are still available.

4.  Staple “Dictatorship vs. Democracy” – I don’t know what it is about this song, but I just don’t get tired of it.  This one has been on my mp3 player all year, and I still love it.  This one is also still available.

3.  Number One Gun – Pure alternative rock goodness.  I don’t think I can begin to count how many times I’ve listened to these three songs this year.  Still available, and highly recommended.

2.  Three Cord Wonder – Even though they may not have been the next big thing musically, I think Three Cord Wonder was one of the coolest Christian bands I featured this year.  I listen to a lot of music, and I rarely ever get to hear such a unashamedly Christian band.  Sure, the lyrics are simple, but they’re true, and give glory to God.  That’s a band I can look up to.

1.  Esterlyn – I’d never heard of the group Esterlyn before 2008, and now, they’re one of my top artists.  In fact, I liked their music enough to write up a whole spotlight on them.  Extremely good.

There you have it, the year 2008 in free Christian music as seen by Matt.  Now, even though those were my favorite free music posts, there were a couple of others that deserve mention simply because they were particularly fun, random, and unusual.  That list includeds No More Gloom, the free CD Everyday Joe’s Coffee House (in Fort Collins, Colorado) released, featuring different songs by artists who’ve played there, which was really random.  And then there’s the BarlowGirl song on the German site that required step-by-step instructions.  That was a lot of fun to write up.  And, last but not least, the mind-blowing weird song titles post.  That was so much fun to research and write for, and totally random too.

That’s why I decided to start stockpiling song titles for version 2, which you can look for sometime soon.  Like last time, I’d love it if everyone could contribute their favorite weird-and-wacky titles.  Leave a comment, or shot me an email at freechristianmusicblog@gmail.com.  Thank everyone for reading, and happy New Year!

Oh, and I just remembered, I was going to ask what your favorite posts from 2008 were.  Do you agree with me, or have your own top pick?

25 Years (And The Music Don’t Stop)

Free music today from one of the biggest websites in free Christian music, HearItFirst.  It turns out that EMI CMG / Sparrow Records (who used to own HearItFirst) had a 25th birthday recently, and to celebrate, they gave away 25 five free downloads, covering what appears to be a full 25 years of music.  They’ve got some old classics, and some fairly recent ones too.  The full list:

Scott Wesley Brown – “Consider The Lilies”
Amy Grant – “Sing Your Praise To The Lord”
Jump5 -”Friends”
Avalon – “For Freedom”
BeBe and CeCe Winans – “Change Your Nature”
Bethany Dillon – “Waking Up”
Lost Ocean – “Just Glide”
Margaret Becker – “Say The Name”Balloons
Newsboys – “You Are My King (Amazing Love)”
Charlie Hall – “Marvelous Light”
Oceans Above – “Beautiful One”
DC Talk – “The Hardway”
Petra – “This Means War”
DeGarmo and Key – “Casual Christian”
Rebecca St. James – “God Help Me”
Sanctus Real – “The Face of Love”
Shawn McDonald – “Captivated”
Stacie Orrico – “Strong Enough”
Delirious? – “Majesty”
Steven Curtis Chapman – “Signs of Life”
Edison Glass – “Let Go”
This Beautiful Republic – “Casting Off”
Future of Forestry – “Open Wide”
Geoff Moore and The Distance – “Homerun”
Audio Adrenaline – “Big House”

As you can see, I wasn’t kidding about a the time line. Amy Grant and Scott Wesley’s songs were both released before my time, and then Shawn MacDonold’s “Captivated” came out just this year. Anyway, regardless of your age, you’ll probably find something you can enjoy. I know James really likes Edison Glass, and I’m glad to see Audio Adrenaline’s “Big House” on the list. That’s just a classic.

To access the downloads, you’ll need to be a HearItFirst member and be signed in. Then you can pick & download the mp3s you want. Happy listening!  (Oh, and happy birthday HearItFirst!)

2 Free Songs from Sanctus Real & Run Kid Run

Not of This World (NOTW), a Christian clothing company, surprised the world a while back by adding free music downloads to their website.  They only update their selection once a month, but when they do, you can be sure it’s going to be good.

Run Kid Run

This month, they have two great rockers by Run Kid Run and Sancuts Real.  Run Kid Run’s song is “One In A Million”, a catchy punk-pop-rock tune from the group’s latest CD Love At The Core.

Sanctus Real’s contribution is “Turn On the Lights”, the electric anthem title track from their latest release.  You don’t want to miss this one.

Anyway, if you’re into either band, or just need some good music, check both out.

Speedlinking: Brave Saint Saturn, Lincon Brewster, Addison Road

Speedlinking once again (Friday, because James found a sweet sampler he couldn’t wait to post about. :) ) Anyway, speedlinking is something I started last week, basically, to save myself time and to diversify somewhat.  You can see last week’s introduction here.  That said, let’s get started:

1.  Brave Saint Saturn has given Indie Vision Music permission to give their song “Starling” away as a free download.  Brave Saint Saturn is the electronic side project of several members of Five Iron Frenzy.

2.  I was emailed about this 100 Places to Find Free Christian Music Online list this week, and would have had to share it even if TFCMB wasn’t number 21 on the list.  It’s extremely complete, and worth perusing.

3.  Indie Vision Music has also got two brand new downloads from Gasoline Heart and Discover America.  Looks good!

4.  Indie Vision Music also has got a full CD download from Amohalko.  It’s a full CD called Spark, and looks sweet.  Three downloads in one post – yes, Indie Vision Music is amazing.

5.  This week’s video is Joy Electric – “What Electricity Made”.  See it here.

6.  iTicket’s has a free download this week of Lincoln Brewster’s new song “Today Is the Day”.

7.  Total Axxess has a free download of Addison Road’s “Sticking With You”.  It looks like it’s only going to be available for a limited time, so grab a copy fast.

7.  And last but definitely not least, this week’s archived download is actually a sampler from HearItFirst.com.  Check the original post for details.

More iTicket’s!

One of free music’s staples, iTicket’s, has added new music this week from both Sanctus Real and House of Heroes.  You can now download Sanctus Real’s rockin’ “Turn On the Lights” and House of Heroes’ “Sooner or Later”.  I’ve had both songs for several months, and can recommend them highly.

Slammin’ Downloads Courtesy of HearItFirst

Ten free songs today courtesy of HearItFirst.com and TobyMac.  My research indicates that it was a promo for Portable Sounds.  You may have heard about it, kind of a big deal.  :)   Anyway, the sampler is still live online and has some sweet music.  Notice the inclusion of TobyMac’s smash hit “Made To Love”.  I was definitely surprised to see that free.

The list:

  • TobyMac – “Made To Love”
  • Shawn MacDonald – “Pour Out”
  • Rebecca St. James – “God Help Me”
  • Sanctus Real – “Fly”
  • Our Hearts Hero – “Back To The Cross”
  • John Reuben – “Word of Mouth”
  • Britt Nicole – “Indestructible”
  • Future of Forestry – “Open Wide”
  • David Crowder Band – “You Are My Joy”
  • This Beautiful Republic – “Jesus to this World”

As you can see, there’s quite a lot of good songs on there.  Particularly John Reuben and Britt Nicole, in my opinion.  Actually, the Britt Nicole song is quite rare.  It’s not on her CD, and was only released on HearItFirst and a compliation disc.  It’s a lot rockier then her other stuff too, which makes it interesting.  But I digress…

Anyway, to access all of the music, you’ll need to have a HearItFirst account and be signed in.  I’d highly recommend opting in to the mailing list, as they send you free songs every week.  Very cool.

Various Updates

A couple of free music updates:

iTicket’s has new music for this week.  This time, it’s “Providence” by new band Abandon, “Black Coal (Acoustic)” by Sanctus Real, and “Alive” by Superchick.  Yes, “Alive”, again.  Oh well, the Abandon song is new and the Sanctus Real is an exclusive, rare, new song.

-iTicket’s Free Music Page-

Speaking of iTickets, they recently unveiled a Facebook application that lists the free downloads for the week.  I’ve added to my personal profile, but it would be nice to add it to the TFCMB Facebook Group page.  Does anyone know if that’s possible?

Also recently update, Soul-Audio has a lot of new music.  They’ve got new songs from Mike Farris, Sixpence None the Richer, Jenn Weber, CO3, Jon Foreman, Beloved, and After Edmond.  Soul-Audio is becoming a real center of free music goodness.  Definitely worth checking out.

-Soul-Audio’s Free Music Page-

Falling Up is releasing a new best-of CD in a couple of days entitled Discover The Trees.  If you pre-order it now, you can get a free Falling Up air freshner.  Yes.  An air freshner.  Umm, interesting.  I really like Falling Up, but an air freshener?  Check it out:

-Discover the Trees on Musichristian-

Brandon Heath has new music coming out soon, and as a bonus, he’s giving out a random, free mp3 to anyone on his mailing list.  You need to confirm for the list, but after that, you can visit the bonus page, answer a “What If We” question, and download the free music.  There’s supposed to be some new stuff in the mix, and probably some old and rare stuff too.

-BrandonHeath.net-

And if that’s not enough, a new website NoiseTrade.com has full CD’s from Alli Rogers, Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, Sixpence None the Richer, Joy Whitlock, and more.  Pay what you want, or tell three friends and get the CDs free.  I’m going to write a full post as soon as I can check the system out, but I thought you’d want to hear about it as soon as possible.  Thanks to everyone who sent this in!  Sorry I’ve been so long in featuring it.

-NoiseTrade.com-

Wow, that’s was a lot to write…  :)
