Stephanie Smith
The Weekly Downloads: Feb. 2 ~ Feb. 8
Gospel Music Channel has had a pretty big week – on Tuesday, they officially changed their name from “Gospel Music Channel” to just “GMC”. Thankfully, the name changed hasn’t affect their weekly free download, with this week’s free song being Israel Houghton’s “The Power of One (Change the World)”. It’s a slow, soulful track, not really my style, but hey, it’s free, so I’m not complaining.

Also available this week are Stephanie Smith’s “Heart Attack” from iTickets and Laura Story’s “What A Savior” (straight off the new Catalyst Music Project album) from New Release Tuesday. “Heart Attack” is from Stephanie’s new self-titled EP, and (in my opinion), definitely something to check out. Not Afraid, Stephanie’s debut, was definitely on the pop side of pop/rock, but from what I’ve heard of the new EP, it’s very much on the rock side of the spectrum, almost along the lines of Paramore. I like it.
And available from FreeCCM this week is Phillips, Craig, & Dean’s “Counting On God”, track #1 from the trio’s latest Fearless. Honestly, it didn’t sound much like the Phillips, Craig, & Dean that I’ve known, but it’s still quite the decent song, and I’m glad I got it. Check it out:

Rounding out the week is the new band Me In Motion, whose debut video for their song “Losers” is being featured this week as a free download on VideoRocket. I saw the video for the first time on GMC yesterday, and caught myself singing the song hours later – it’s worth getting if you ask me.

And that’s it for the Weekly Downloads this week, not a lot of music available, but it’s all fairly good stuff, so I’m not complaining.
The Weekly Downloads: Nov. 24 ~ Nov. 30
Happy day-after-Thanksgiving everyone! I’m not sure about you, but at our house, today is the official start of the Christmas season, and therefore, time to start listening to Christmas music. Speaking of Christmas music, there’s a great Christmas song from TobyMac available this week, plus some good normal music too.
Kicking it off, Gospel Music Channel has a free download of Stephanie Smith’s energetic “Superstar” from Not Afraid.
Next up, iTickets’ has two download this week, Lisa Coles’ “Illuminate” and Shout Praise Kids’ version of Lincoln Brewster’s “Today Is The Day”. So far as I can tell, it’s Lincoln Brewster live, plus a children’s choir. It actually sounds pretty good, worth checking out.
Like I mentioned before, one song you don’t want to miss this week is TobyMac’s “This Christmas”, from Tangle – I mean, it’s TobyMac. Good stuff!
Last but not least, New Release Tuesday has a free download of “Comedown” from the new Norwegian band Dreampilots. They’re got a rather different sound, but it’s very catchy. Actually, it’s almost too catchy, consider yourself forewarned.

Well, that’s it for this week, look for more music (including a good bit of Christmas music) next week! Till then…
The Weekly Downloads: Oct. 6 – Oct. 12
Welcome to another week of free downloads from all of usual suspects – iTickets, NewReleaseTuesday, Tangle, and Gospel Music Channel – this week, there’s about twice as much music as normal, thanks to Gotee Records – but more on that in a bit.
First up this week, Tangle.com is featuring Mandisa’s song “He Is With You” on their homepage. It’s from Mandisa’s sophomore album Freedom, and the soundtrack to Mandisa’s second music video, which you can watch here. Check it out!
Also free this week is a brand new Christmas song from Chris Tomlin, courtesy of Gospel Music Channel. It’s called “Emmanuel (Hallowed Manger Ground)”, from Chris’s new album Glory in the Highest, which came out two days ago on Oct. 6. Incidentally, that’s the same release date as Downhere & Family Force 5’s Christmas albums. Anyway, it’s never to early to start collecting Christmas music, and this is a pretty good place to start.

Besides that, last week, Gospel Music Channel had pretty cool song that’s still available. It’s “It Is Your Grace”, by Andreas Sandlund. If the name sounds familiar, there’s a good reason – I was privileged to feature his song “We’re Miles Away” on TFCMB last January, and I’m really excited to see him getting some major attention. Definitely check this one out!

iTickets also has several free downloads this week, from COS, Relient K, and Paul Wright. Now, Relient K shouldn’t need much introduction, nor should Paul Wright, but COS doesn’t have the advantage of being famous, at least not yet. Basically, “Your Will” is a super-stripped down worship song, it’s barely acoustic, and actually sounds quite good. Worth checking out.
This post is getting long… and I’m only about half way. Seriously, this is a big week – and the biggest batch of downloads of from NewReleaseTuesday.com. They have a whopping 8 downloads this week, seven of whom are Gotee Records artists. The listing:
- Relient K – “The Lining Is Silver”
- B.Reith – “Mess”
- House of Heroes – “In The Valley of the Dying Sun”
- Abandon Kansas – “I Wonder If It’s Me”
- Ayeisha Woods – “Transparent”
- Stephanie Smith – “Not Afraid”
- I Am Terrified – “Falling On Everlasting”
And hanging on from last week, an excellent song from non-Gotee artist Matt Maher called “Alive Again”. I’ve already gotten all 8 songs free from other sites, but if you’re missing all or any, this is a great opportunity to download them, for free.
-New Release Tuesday’s Free Music Page-
Augh! I just keep finding more music… ah, it’s hard to complain about that. You can also get three free songs from Michael W. Smith, Matt Maher (once again!), and Phil Stacey at this link:
And you can download three songs from Matt Papa, Jason Gray, and High Valley at OnCourse. Bottom right of the page, follow the instructions there.
And that wraps up the weekly downloads for this week, so till next week, this is Matt signing off.
Christmas Series: Day 4 – Gaither Vocal Band
iTicket’s has got two downloads up this week. Surprisingly, only one of them is a Christmas download, by the Gaither Vocal Band.
Now, I know the Gaither Vocal Band isn’t exactly what you’d consider “cool” any more, but they did happen to be quite important to the history of Christian music. Might be worth downloading and listening to. To quote my Mom, “it might be good for you”. (I’ve heard that several times when I offered my opinion on southern gospel.
)
Rounding out the selection this week is Stephanie Smith, who has here song “Over It” available from her CD Not Afraid. “Over It” is the closest to punk I’ve ever heard Stephanie Smith go. Sounds almost like a song from Stellar Kart.
Free Music from Gotee Records
I’ve got some sweet downloads today from a whole slew of artists on Gotee Records. Gotee.com just got a whole new free download section of the site. They actually added the new features a week or two ago, but because of technical issues, no one was able to sign in to download the songs.
Thankfully, they were able to find and fix the problem and now, all 8 downloads should work just fine. They actually have one download from every artist on Gotee (Relient K, I Am Terrified, House of Heroes, John Reuben, etc) except for Flynn Adam, who just signed.
The cool part is that you can use the same email and password from FreeGotee.com on Gotee.com – very convient. Plus, it’s free music, and almost all of it is extremely good. What do you have to lose?
Music Updates
Both Soul-Audio and iTickets have new music this week, featuring some amazing new music. Without further ado…
iTicket’s, once the premier Christian event website, now the premiere Christian event website AND a great source of free music, has two new songs this week by Philmont and Stephanie Smith. For Philmont, you can grab a copy of the song “I Can’t Stand to Fall”, from the album Oh Snap. It used to be availbale on the Gospel Music Channel website, and was one of hottest tracks I’ve featured in a while.
The other new song on iTicket’s is “Renew Me” by Stephanie Smith. Since I haven’t heard the song yet, you’ll have to check it for yourself.
Edit: Listening to “Renew Me” now, I have to say, this song is good. Really good. Krystal Meyers fans won’t want to miss this.
Also, as I said, Soul-Audio has added a ton of new music to their free downloads page. They have new stuff from DecembeRadio, Bart Milliard, David Crowder Band, The Wrecking, Sarah MacIntosh, Mission Six, Brenton Brown, Jars of Clay, Tammy Trent, Amy Court, and after that 4 pages of earlier downloads. The best part? No membership is required. You can just go, grab the songs you want, and enjoy them.
3 Free Downloads: iTickets
iTicket’s has added three free song downloads to their website. Yes, three. You can now get songs from Mark Schultz’s own adoption story-song, the remix version of Delirious’s “We Give You Praise”, and Stephanie Smith’s catchy first single “Not Afraid”.
All I can say is I hope they do this again next week.
Brand New HearItFirst Sampler!
I just found this now, and I am downloading as I write: Hearitfirst.com has new sampler. This particular sampler features HIF’s favorite new artists of 2007. It’s pretty diverse, with almost all genres featured. It has:
Stand Amazed – 33Miles
Intermission To The Moon – A Dream Too Late
Holiday – Britt Nicole
Love Like Rain – Daniel Doss Band
Love Somebody – Mandisa
Your Own – Nate Huss
Salvation Station – Neworldson
Cross the Line – Ruth
Not Afraid – Stephanie Smith
Say This Sooner – The Almost
Hear Our Prayers – The Glorious Unseen
Blocking the Sun – The Send
As you can see, it’s not only diverse, but it has some really good music. Now you will need to create a HearItFirst account to access the sampler. I highly recommend that when you do, you check the “Sign me up for weekly newsletter” box. If you do, you’ll receive more free music every week.

Stephanie Smith and Fee
Almost before I posted my last post (about FreeCCM.com), they updated. Now, for one week only, you can also get a new song from Fee. They just updated the site today, so it’s fresh.
Also, FreeGotee.com added a new song from new artist Stephanie Smith. It’s called “Superstar”, and it’s from her new CD, Not Afraid. I had the opportunity to listen to the song before this (see next post) and it really stood out. Very catchy, very energetic. Try it, hey, after all it’s free.
