The Showdown

Fuel Returns (And Matt’s Head Explodes)

Tooth & Nail Fuel SamplerIt’s true – Tooth & Nail and Solid State Records have let loose yet another unbelievably epic sampler to wreck musically chaos on the eardrums of fans everywhere.  In fact, the only thing that could come close to touching this is the last Fuel sampler.  The tracklist:

  • Surrogate – “Exercise Machines”
  • Living Sacrifice – “Overkill Exposure (Rough Mix)”
  • Haste the Day – “68″
  • As Cities Burn – “84′ Sheepdog”
  • Children 18:3 – “All My Balloons”
  • FM Static – “Boy Moves To A New Town With Optimistic Outlook”
  • Thousand Foot Krutch – “Bring Me To Life”
  • Emery – “Cutthroat Collapse”
  • Ivoryline – “Days End”
  • mewithoutYou – “Every Thought A Thought of You”
  • The Crucified – “The Pit”
  • MxPx – “Punk Rock Girl”
  • The Ascendicate – “Scottish”
  • Oh, Sleeper – “Son of the Morning”
  • August Burns Red – “Thirty and Seven”
  • Becoming The Archetype – “Dichotomy”
  • Copeland – “The Grey Man”
  • Hawk Nelson – “Let’s Dance (Dojo Dominating Remix)”
  • Showbread – “Nothing Matters Anymore”
  • MyChildren MyBride – “On The Wings of Integrity”
  • Neon Horse – “Strange Town”
  • Corey Crowder – “Look How Far We’ve Come”
  • Trenches – “Sacrament”
  • The Showdown – “[Achilles] The Backbreaker”
  • And Then There Were None – “Reinventing Robert Cohn”
  • Family Force 5 – “Fever”
  • Jonezetta – “Sick In The Teeth”
  • Since October – “Guilty”
  • The Chariot – “Daggers”
  • Underoath – “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures”
  • Secret & Whisper – “Anchors (Acoustic)”

If that doesn’t get you pumped up for this, I don’t know what will.  Well, besides the fact that the Showbread and Oh, Sleeper songs are brand new, never-before-heard.  They aren’t even on MySpace yet.  Extremely epic, and a must-have.

Of course, that’s not to say that it’s perfect.  The cover art is a little creepy, and the website mentions a song from The Almost, which wasn’t in my .zip file.  I won’t be surprised if there’s an update with the song in it soon enough.  Even so, those are minor details.  Get this, right, now.  Seriously.  Do it.  Now:

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I’m totally digging the Children 18:3, FM Static, and Ivoryline right now, great stuff, and I’m not nearly through the sampler yet.  What are your favorite songs?

Free Music from The Showdown

Free music today from Christian hardcore band The Showdown.  The song is “A Monument Encased In Ash”, from A Chorus of Obliteration.  It’s solid thrash album, (one of my favorites), both from a musical and a lyrical perspective.  You can download the mp3 for free from the band’s Purevolume.

Speaking of The Showdown, the group has a new CD coming out August 19th on Solid State Records.  The CD is called “Back Breaker”, and you can check out the album art and two new songs from the CD on said Purevolume profile.  You can even pre-order the CD and get a free T-shirt.  Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Update: The Showdown also has two live songs for free on their MySpace profile.  I’ve written about it before, but I had didn’t know that two of the songs were still available.  So, check out the old post here for the link.  Thanks to Colt for rediscovering  them!

Josh Scogin: A Rose By Any Other Name

Josh Scogin, A Rose By Any Other NameJosh Scogin is a man of many talents. He’s the former lead vocalist for Luti-Kriss/Norma Jean, the lead vocalist for The Chariot, he’s done guest vocals with The Showdown and As Cities Burn, and he’s got a acoustic folk side-project A Rose By Any Other Name.*

It’s A Rose By Any Other Name we’re going to be looking at today. You can get “I Sing A Lot” for free from the A Rose.. MySpace profile. It’s much softer then what Josh normally does, I guess to get a break from writing metal songs. Still, it’s very good and proves Josh Scogin is multi-talented.

*According to a rumor, Josh may be also be involved in a rap group. If you can prove/disprove that, please let me know!

FreeFuge.com, New Music Video from Family Force 5

Free music from FreeFuge.com today. They have a page on their website specially for free music, and to be blunt, it’s awesome. It looks like the selection is a mix of songs from FreeGotee.com and FreeMvS.com, with a little Sparrow Records thrown in. Of course, that’s not saying much unless you know which bands are on which labels. So, I’ll explain the selection.

It feature’s Ayiesha Woods’ “Happy”, Bethany Dillon’s “Top of the World”, Britt Nicole’s current single “Set The World On Fire”, Family Force 5’s “Supersonic”, John Reuben’s catchy “Good Evening”, Relient K’s “More Than Useless”, Sanctus Real’s number one hit “Don’t Give Up”, the southern rock “Temptation Come My Way” from The Showdown. Also featured is This Beautiful Republic’s new single “Casting Off”, Vicky Beeching, and Tim Hughes. (Oh, and they also have Chasing Victory listed, but the download doesn’t work.)

As you can see, that’s quite a selection. All of the songs are free and legal downloads. So enjoy!

Also, Family Force 5’s new music video for the song “Never Let Me Go” is debuting today on TVU Music Television. I am going to watch the debut, and hopefully have a review of sorts tomorrow. I am extending an open invitation for anyone who wants to watch the video at three and then discuss it tomorrow. If you’re interested, you can either watch TVU on the Sky Angel television network, or you can watch it online at www.TVULive.com. I’ll see you tomorrow!

Welcome to FreeMonoVsStereo.com…

Free music today from Mono vs. Stereo Records, a imprint of Gotee Records. Don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of them. They were unfamiliar to me too. Anyway, as an imprint of Gotee, they use the same web-network thing, which means they have the same bunch of websites, only different. Back in October I posted about FreeGotee.com, which features songs from Gotee artists. FreeMonovsStereo.com is almost the same site, only with different colors, artists, and songs. It rocks. It has 18 different songs that are totally free, from artist’s like Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, The Even Anthem, Chasing Victory, and Last Tuesday. I’ll break down the songs quick:
.
Andy Zipf is an artist I know nothing whatsoever about. Chasing Victory is a post-hardcore band that broke up this year. Gasoline Heart is another band that I am not familiar with, but it is worth noting that 2 of the song on FreeMonovsStereo.com are unavailable anywhere else. House of Heroes has two song featured here, one of which was a kindof-hit single. Last Tuesday is my favorite band on the site, and “Become What You Believe” is my favorite song. It really struck a chord with me. With lyrics like:

“Who’s to say it’s not the end Our final record, final breath With one last day is that all you would say? I’m so afraid of living when I’m unaware and unprepared There’s so much left to say But when we stand before the Son of Man Will we hang our heads, will He understand? When it’s all been said and done was our race well run?”

It really makes you think, and want to act. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are a southern rock band fronted by the former lead vocalist of Underoath. Very talented. Then there’s The Evan Anthem, which I can’t quite describe. They are good though. Last but not least is The Showdown. They have two songs, one from each of their two albums. They went from a hardcore band on their first album to a awesome southern rock band on their second, so it’s nice to be able to hear both sides of the group.

So far, this all sounds to-good-to-be-true, right? Well, it is. Sort of. Some of the songs, when downloading is attempted, give the ever-dreaded “File not found” error. Still, this is an awesome site for anyone who like Christian rock.

Enjoy y’all!
