Willet

Free Sampler from Rock for Life

Rock for Life Winter 2009 CompilationFree music today thanks to Rock for Life, a pro-life organization that works to promote life for all people, both the born and unborn.  Turns out, Rock for Life has partnered with dozens of Christian musicians and bands to help raise awareness and support through concerts and compilations, and they’ve released their last compilation through the website NoiseTrade, where you can either pay what you’d like, or, download it for free by telling 5 friends about the compilation, a win/win either way.

This particular compilation features 17 songs, from Manic Drive, Willet, Alakrity, and more.  I’m not familiar with all the artists, but they’re all obviously pro-life, and by the looks of it they’re all Christian artists.  Some of the songs are more outspoken then others (you’ll see what I mean), but there’s still some good songs available.  Check it out!

Fighting From the Ground Up Vol. 2

Fighting From the Ground Up Vol. 2

I’m finally getting around to listening to Indie Vision Music’s latest musical offering, the Fighting From the Ground Up Vol. 2 sampler.  I’ve only heard the first couple of songs at this point (I’m listening as I type), but I can tell you with all certainty that this, like the rest of Indie Vision Music’s samplers, it is well worth your time.

Since it is so big (over 50 artists), rather then attempt to review it, I’m just going to let you listen for yourselves.  There’s definitely some good tracks included, and then the inevitable not-quite-as-good-tracks, but all around I’d say it’s worth downloading, especially if you enjoy independent music.  After all, it’s free!  What do you have to lose?

Enjoy!

Christmas Series: Day 12 – A Bit Of Everything

It’s Christmas Eve, and thanks to many reader suggestions, I have more then enough songs to finish up this year’s Christmas series. In fact, I’ve got so many left, this post is going to be predominately composed of links. This post is going to be a bit of a endurance event, so make sure you’ve got a while to dedicate to downloading. I kid you not, there is a TON of music to come. Brace yourself. Oh, yeah, and merry Christmas! :)

Let’s kick it off with Shane & Shane. They’ve got their song “Away in A Manger” available from Today’s Christian Woman. Actually, Mandisa, Sara Groves, and Casting Crowns all have songs on that site too.

Alli Rogers has a brand new Christmas EP up on NoiseTrade. It’s called The Silent Stars EP, and you can pay want you want for it, or get it for free by sharing it with 5 friends. Also on NoiseTrade is the Christmas edition of The Silent’s CD Unseen, featuring their version of “We Three Kings”. To top those two, you can also get a free compilation featuring songs from the Love Came Down A Christmas Time Tour. The sampler has songs from all 4 artists on the tour, Jars of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, Sara Groves, and Leeland. Very cool. Check it here.

If that’s still not enough music for you, GodTube has got free Christmas songs from Travis Ryan, Rachel Scott, and Sara Groves, plus some other goodies. Then there’s two free songs from High Valley on the Centricity Record’s website. Leigh Nash has a free Christmas song on Download.com, Theocracy has a wild Christmas song called “Rudolph vs. Frosty” up on their website, and then there’s The Staple Singers, who have “No Room at the Inn” up on Download.com.

Sixpence None the Richer, Sara Groves, and DecembeRadio all have Christmas songs available for free on JesusFreakHideout.com, iTicket’s has a Christmas download from Gabriela Hindy, plus two other songs from Abandon and Mission Six. Asthmatic Kitty Records has two free Sufjan Stevens Christmas songs available too.
Amazon.com has got numerous free songs from the likes of Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, Jars of Clay, Mannheim Steamroller, Big Daddy Weave, Jim Brickman, David Phelps, and BarlowGirl.

BarlowGirl, Jars of Clay, Chris Sligh, and Casting Crowns all have free mp3s available on CCM Magazine’s website.

I think Don Francisco wins the award for the most songs available. 21 on his website!

Even though it’s not a download, The Advantage has added a cool Christmas song to their MySpace profile. It’s called “Retail Christmas”, and it’s actually quite good. Here’s hoping they do a free download of it soon.

Brian Bate’s has an interesting free download. It works on a honor system – something you sadly don’t see much of any more. Anyway, the song is “Mary Christmas” and it’s available on his website.

Willet’s website, after being down for weeks, is finally up and running again with a free original Christmas song by the band. It’s called “The Nativity”, and looks pretty good.

Speaking of independent rock, the group The Violet Burning has got a full Christmas CD for free this year. It’s called Divine, and you can check that out on their website.

And, to close, Sleeping At Last has three Christmas downloads up on their Virb profile, plus one live song and another normal track.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Songs from Phil Joel, Vota, and (Maybe) Willet

While I was working on yesterday’s post about Remedy Drive, I discovered several more downloads on the same site.  The songs are:  “Free to Fail” by Vota, “Shout”, by Phil Joel, and possibly a download from Willet.

There’s actually some serious Newsboys ties with the music here.  Vota is the new name of Casting Pearls, a band started by an former Newsboys member.  Phil Joel is also former Newsboys, and is now pursueing a solo career.  And Willet.. doesn’t have anything to do with the Newsboys.  :)

About the Willet download, on the feature page it has a title that says “Free Download”.  The problem is there’s nothing there.  Lower on the page is a large picture that promises free stuff and links to Willet’s website.  Unfortunately, said site is down.  So, there’s nothing available at the moment.  I’m going to be keeping an eye out though, you never know.

Update: Evidently the download was there the whole time, and AdBlock Plus had blocked the banner.  So make sure you grab the song.

Update: Just as I was about to publish this, I found yet another free download on the same site.  This time it’s Worth Dying For, a new Christian rock worship band.  You can grab a copy of “Unite” for free.
